. AUDITORS' REPORT .
THE Auditors have examined all the bills and accounts furnished
them by the Selectmen, including a copy of the settlement with the
Treasurer, and find them generally correct. It is very difficult and
perplexing to arrive at a balance in a proper way, owing mainly, to the
practice of settling with the Treasurer before the close of the financial
year ; and they would earnestly recommend that the annual settlement
with the Treasurer be hereafter deferred till the last day of March,
which, by a vote of the town passed in 1858, is the expiration of the
financial year.

Jr The Auditors notice the fact that a large portion of the articles bought for the support of the
Town's poor are purchased out of town, and they would venture to suggest the propriety of expending
the money raised for that purpose in town, when it can be done advantageously, as it seems in most
instances it might be, provided the goods were bought in as large quantities and for cash.
