HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-05-03-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting May 3, 2017 Parker Room, Town Office Building Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; Suzanne Caton, Kim Coburn, Linda Dixon, Karen Gaughan, Mary Hutton, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Rich McDonough, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Sandy Podgorski, Gina Rada Members not present June Baer, Glen Bassett, Dick Crogan, Carol Flynn, Paul Jenkins, Linda Lovett, Wayne Miller, Geetha Padaki, Dave Taylor, Bob Tracey, Sam Zales Business The Chair declared that a quorum was present. Two prospective members attended as guests and were introduced: Gail Cunz and Sue Stering. The minutes of April 26 were approved with minor corrections. The next meeting will be on May 10, 2017 in the Parker Room, Town Office Building. Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2017 Division of Responsibilities: Paul – Police cruiser, honor guard, and vehicle for Grand Marshal’s party. Carol and Cerise – Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts Water – Bob and Wayne Narrator – Gresh Lattimore. Will ask Glen Bassett to share Narrator duties. Publicity – Linda. Will ask LexMedia to televise ceremony on Green. Grand Marshal: at present we have one Grand Marshal, Michael Spiers, nephew of Lexington’s first Vietnam casualty, Stephen Spiers. We may have a co-Grand Marshal, Mark Gallagher, brother of Philip Gallagher, who was also killed in Vietnam. Mike Spiers will walk in the parade but several other family members serving as aides will need a car. Wreath-laying Ceremony Locations (10 in all): Fire Station Westview Cemetery Grave of Thomas Cosgrove, Munroe Cemetery Memorial Urn at Munroe Cemetery Lexington Police Memorial Korean War Memorial Vietnam War Memorial World War II Veterans Memorial All Soldiers Memorial Grave of Captain John Parker, Olde Burying Ground Upon learning that a plaque honoring Sp4 Stephen Spiers exists on the flagpole at St. Brigid’s, the committee decided to order an extra wreath for placement there. This will be done in the morning and announced at the ceremony, and will not be included in the traditional wreath- laying program. Other items: Invitations to honored guests have been sent with an rsvp request by a certain date. Lorain will check with Dawn McKenna to borrow the Visitor’s Center portable microphone and pick up the day of the ceremony. Sue Rockwell, representing the Hancock Church, is asking for guidance on building a float. th The church wants to enter a float in next year’s parade to honor their 150 anniversary. Sondra Lucente offered to contact her. Sandy plans to work with veterans over the summer to produce more slides for the Veterans Slideshow to be shown at the Veterans Breakfast. The committee then reviewed the parade roster and lineup and the Order of Events for the Ceremony on the Green A walk-through for the parade and ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m. in the Police Station parking lot.
