HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-03-07-SEPAC-minLexington Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) Lexington Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) Business Meeting Minutes March 7, 2017 Attendees: Jennifer Yaar, Kathy Cunningham, Robin Abrams, Ann Wolf, Lisa O'Brien, Bettina McGimsey, Mona Roy, Barbara White Location: Lexington Community Center, Room 237 Call to order: 9:06 am Adjourned: 10:25 am Approvals • Minutes from 1/10/17 Business Meeting were unanimously approved. Reports of Officers • Treasurer Report: o As of the end of February, our balance is $4,328 o In January, we collected one membership and bank interest for a total of $24.05. No expenses in January. o In February, we collected 4 memberships and bank interest for a total of $72.27. o Outstanding expenses for February include: ■ $82 misc meeting expenses ■ $200 Honorarium check for Nadine Gaab - speaker for Dyslexia group in April. • Membership report: there are currently 100 SEPAC/SEPTA members Other Business • Bettina McGimsey provided an update on the Dyslexia Task Force from the presentation by Ellen Sugita and Kelly Chase to the School Committee. o 36k has been allocated to fund two pilot programs for early screening (Bowman will pilot the program in the 2017-2018 school year). o Second pilot is scheduled for Bridge kindergarten screening using Predictive Assessment of Reading (PAR) with pre -k students to flag issues prior to kindergarten. o LPS will continue to do training for Landmark/Math, Wilson, and Orton -Gillingham. o Dyslexia Task Force will meet again in May. o First Peer -to -Peer Mentoring meeting was a success -10 kids and mentors met, organizers hope this event will be repeated. o Over 108 teachers have completed voluntary dyslexia training. • Team discussed doing an update on the listsery for SEPAC/SEPTA news, to be posted on the listsery and possibly the Minuteman. • Team discussed end -of -year appreciation and budgets—team agreed to $100 for elementary and middle school, and additional funds for the high school—most likely $200, but to be determined by Barbara.
