HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-03-22-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting March 22, 2017 Parker Room, Town Office Building Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; June Baer, Kim Coburn, Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Karen Gaughan, Mary Hutton, Cerise Jalelian, Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski Members not present Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Carol Flynn, Linda Levitt, Rich McDonough, Dave Taylor, Bob Tracey, Sam Zales Business The Chair declared that a quorum was present. The minutes of March 15 were approved The next meeting will be on March 29, 2017 in the Parker Room, Town Office Building. Approval of Applications No Fee (3 Units) The Committee approved the following parade units with no fee involved: Bhakti Center of Lexington - Lorain wrote letter in accordance with discussion at last meeting. Children's Center of Lexington - regarding the concern about children pulling wagons, they will be accompanied by parents. If children get tired, parents will put them in wagons and pull them along. Lexington Youth Lacrosse - sports team, some question on their goalpost on wheels. If this turns out to be a problem, marchers will carry it. Fee Requested (4 Units) – Same as 2016 The Committee approved the following units and fees that represented no change from 2016: Stuart Highlanders Pipe Band Tony Barrie Band Syzygy Media Works US Naval Sea Cadets Corps Tabled Applications The following applications were tabled pending discussions to renegotiate requested fees: Martin Cox - two military vehicles. George DiBonis - WWII Armored Vehicles Lorain mentioned that the Sons of Italy Drum and Bugle Corps of Haverhill, MA is seriously interested in participating and is trying to get their group together. Patriots Day, Monday, April 17, 2017 Expenditures on Patriots Day so far amount to $26,505. Kim will contact three groups who normally participate in the parade but have not applied this year: Korean Organization of Lexington; Follen Church; and Lexington Education Foundation. Lorain will meet on Friday with Town Counsel, Town Manager, and Selectman Liaison Peter Kelley to discuss policy re citizens groups, free speech, and expressing political positions in a parade The Girl Scouts are required to have insurance for the vehicle pulling their float in the parade. Mal's, who is donating truck and driver, doesn’t want to absorb the costs of insurance. Can the town help in some way? This will also be discussed at Friday’s meeting with Town officials. Geetha has worked with Lexmedia to produce a 90 second scripted promotional piece using video clippings and still photos. She showed the still photos to the group. This will be an excellent resource for the Committee that can be used in a variety of ways. Gina Johnson will display her Wall of Remembrance at the Masonic Hall all day on Monday, April 17 and will set up on Sunday. Information will be included on the committee webpage and Visitors Center schedule. Morning Parade: with the Middle School Band out of the lineup, we will move the LHS Marching Band to the end of the parade. Two buses will pick up the Minutemen at St. Brigid’s parking lot. Kim will be the liaison for the LHS Band and the Spirit of ’76. Cerise will handle Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Linda will remind Chief Marshal and Aides that they are in both morning and afternoon parades. Ceremony on the Green: Lorain will get names of the Lexington Youth Commission emcees. Steve Conners will announce the Cecil Harris and Den Fenn Awards from the Minutemen. Marie Hill will announce the Minuteman Cane Award. Peter Kelley will announce the Lexington Youth Commission Award Joe LaMarca, Lions Club President, will announce the Tricorne Hat Award No clergy yet, Karen in contact with LICA.
