The minutes of the meeting of March 8, 2017 were approved as amended. Lorain showed the committee an example of the type of polo shirt that she is proposing the committee members buy to wear at TCC functions. She will send out more details later. The next meeting will be March 22, 2017. Approval of Applications No Fee (2 Units) The Committee approved the following parade units with no fee involved: Minuteman Cane Award – one vehicle. Minuteman National Historic Park – 2 vehicles Fee Requested (1 Unit) – Same as 2016 The Committee approved the following units and fees that represented no change from 2016: New England Vehicle Collectors (Bob Barker) – 13 vehicles Tabled Applications The following applications were tabled until the committee receives further guidance from the Town Counsel and/or the Board of Selectmen: Original Freedom City organization – marchers Minuteman Indivisible organization -- marchers Action on previously tabled applications: The committee discussed how to ensure that the Bhakti Center of Lexington float that is pulled by ropes is fitted with larger wheels for the 2017 parade. Along with the acceptance confirmation packet, Lorain will include a separate letter informing the group that their float will be inspected by the TCC on the day of the parade and will be removed from the parade if the wheels are determined to be inadequate. Patriots Day, Monday, April 17, 2017 The Patriots Day stakeholders meeting was held on Thursday, March 9, 10 am, in the Selectmen’s Room in the Town Office building. The committee discussed Mary Hutton’s suggestions about new bands and marching units that might be invited to participate in the parade. Committee asked for more information about the size and cost of the proposed groups before sending applications to them. Sandy reported that she is looking into possible venues for the display of Gina Johnson’s Operation Home Ties Wall of Heroes over Patriots Day weekend. Sandy also reported that she had contacted the Masonic Temple who had been recommended, and was hopeful they would agree to display the Wall. Former TCC member Tanya Morrissett has confirmed that she will recruit a fifer, drummer, and flag bearer to lead off the Parade as the Spirit of ’76. Geetha reported on her progress on creating a video advertisement for Patriots Day activities. She and Sandy will meet Friday to work on it. Linda reported that there is quite a bit of interest from people who have had connections with Bill Tighe, our 2017 Grand Marshal, to march in the parade in his honor. Linda reported that about 20 parade ambassadors have been recruited so far. Cerise asked when the stakes for the parade will be put up. Lorain confirmed that the stakes will be set up on Easter Sunday afternoon.
