The Chair reported that a quorum was present.
The minutes of the meeting of January 11, 2017 were approved as corrected.
The next meeting will be February 8, 2017.
Sondra passed on to the committee congratulations from attendees on the Veterans’ Day program.
Patriots Day, Monday, April 17, 2017
Linda announced that a draft interactive parade application has been created and will be distributed
to the committee for review before it is posted.
Geetha reported that she has spoken to LexMedia and they said they could help with editing of a
video about Patriots’ Day activities. Bill Mix suggested that the Minutemen activities on the
Saturday before Patriots’ Day should be included in the video. Other suggestions for inclusion were
the Pancake Breakfasts and information about where people can get the full schedule.
Sandy reported that she got a quote for printing the 2017 schedules from the Town central printing
office but she thought the quote was high. She will get additional quotes from other vendors.
Committee members recommended that she look at vendors outside of Lexington for lower pricing.
Cerise reported that she has ordered proofs for all the Patriots’ Day tickets and tags.
Cerise also reported that Jimmy Wilson will host the Hallamore horses and that he will do a float
with the Minutemen. Steve Connors is working with Jimmy Wilson on the float.
Carol reported that she spoke with Bev Kelly about getting a second convertible for the Grand
Marshall for the parade.
Suzanne reported that she has started revising the sponsorship letter and list of sponsors needing
sponsorship donations.
Lorain suggested that we ask SNAP to participate in the parade and the suggestion was discussed by
the committee.
June Baer raised the issue of parking for visitors on Patriots’ Day. She suggested that the committee
might approach businesses on Hayden Avenue about using their parking lots for visitors, and also
suggested that a shuttle bus to carry visitors from Hayden Ave to the Town center might be
subsidized by the companies. Kim mentioned that we should not contact Shire because they are
currently in litigation with the Town.
Sandy suggested some other possible locations for parking with shuttle service.
Rich McDonough volunteered to talk with Grace Chapel about using their parking lots. He also
volunteered to talk with the Community Center about using their parking lot for visitor parking.
The committee discussed whether we should get involved in arranging visitor parking and several
members thought that the TCC should not worry about parking since it has not been a task for the
TCC in the past.
Kim reported that she received rosters from pre-2015 parades from Suzie Barry. Lorain asked Henry
to review them to see if there are any marching units that used to participate in the parades in the
past that we would like to invite to this year’s parade.
Memorial Day, May 29, 2017
Lorain reported that the committee is thinking about possible special honors for the families of the
three Lexington and one Bedford residents who died in the Vietnam War. Portraits of them will be
created by Gina Johnson and presented to the families.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Suzanne Caton, Co-Secretary
