Approve Minutes - approved 2. Update on morning arrival incident (as it relates to our goal of safe and efficient arrival) - The adults on duty responded immediately. 911 was called. Emergency vehicles arrived. Student transported to hospital accompanied by parents. Student returned to school later that day. Estabrook was commended for their efforts by family and emergency responders. Alert sent to teachers (including script), district administrators, and families. - Monthly reminder around safety at drop-off/pick-up? - VVe will continue to discuss our live drop off/pick-up. Including a "Do Not Enter" sign with specific restricted times. - Concern: that student may leave the line going to the bus without someone knowing. Response: All dismissal changes must be noted in writing. By law students cannot be kept from their parents, however there is a particular protocol around dismissal. Estabrook uses full staff for 15 minute dismissal, assuring safe and efficient end of the day. 3. Enrollment Update - October 1: As of 1/24 we will have 549 students (at least 3 more by February vacation). VVe anticipate seeing an increase to around 560 by the end of the school year. 560-570 is the highest number for all elementary schools. Redistricting was a conversation. Estabrook is filling naturally following minimal redistricting. K classrooms are at capacity; for every additional student we need to hire additional classroom support. Finding that using last year's data to predict enrollment for kindergarten may not be our best tool. Question- with additional students do students get put into the class with the new over -max aide? Answer- balanced classrooms needed. Likely put new students in a new classroom, even if an additional overmax is needed. Question- When do we expect to hit 600? Answer- VVe do not have a date where we are expecting 600. However, the neighborhoods are proving to attract more families with students than anticipated. 4. Update on Superintendent's Proposed FY18 Budget - Superintendent and school principals make a budget with School Committee. School Committee may adjust amounts. Budget is then sent to Town Meeting where they can vote for or against (they cannot change the amount at that time). Budget does not include any new programming. 6.5 unallocated positions in the proposed budget. Estabrook: increase social worker from .5 to a full time position, add an additional SSP, requests for furniture/whiteboards/bulletin boards. Estabrook's plan then becomes part of the recommended budget. There have been community conversations around bus fees, including the use of the after-school bus. They are discussing whether to increase the price and how many students per school may ride the bus. 5. Estabrook School Improvement Plan Progress Update • Lab sites o Successfully done one round of lab sites with the fourth grade team. Planning with the fifth grade team now. Next steps to work with other schools around math lab sites for Estabrook teachers to go to their lab sites and bring back their learning. • The Gift of Failure o Book talk coming 3/21. Community book group discussion 3/7 prior to Lahey coming. o Staff received a copy of book paid for out of operating budget and have had 3 faculty meeting sessions given back to them to read the book. As a staff, Estabrook will engage in a book talk as well- coming together to surface some common themes. • At Home Learning Calendars o (Survey work with parents and kids around homework plan in March.) o Next week the February At Home Learning Calendar will be sent out.
