Meeting Minutes — March 3, 2017

Departments Updates
Schools
- Implementing Culture Competent Teaching (Lex Learn), teachers are trained in
unconscious training, English Learners among other subjects
- Working with Police Dept in reporting racial incident and hate crime
- Commit to all-inclusive schools
Cary Memorial Library
Hosting workshop for parents-Lexington Parent Academy 3 0 on Saturday, March
25 at Lexington Community Center Subjects include Cyber Safety, Relationship,
Depression, Addiction, and more
Human Services Report
- Lexington Parent Academy 3 0 — Saturday, March 25, 2017 9.30-2 30pm
- They are cross training all staff so they can support each other
- Most people come to Human Services for help with financial difficulties living in
Lexington
- They work with the large Veterans community here — there is housing at 65
Bedford Green(homeless veterans)
- Publicizing screening of"If Only" — about the Opioid Epidemic — April 6 — short
film followed by panel presentation—working in collaboration with the schools
and will be screening there
- Also, they are working on letting people know they are there and that there is a
tax exemption for seniors
- The letter for Lexington resident needs to be given to Kristy for delivery
LICA—LICA contribute $1500 to sponsor the Active Bystander Training —working on
advertising and getting people signed up — in order to become a trainer, you must attend
both the 2-hour training and the 7-hour training
- Want to make sure to get HS students to attend so they can become trainers for
the Middle School —recommended talking to the SADD Club —Julie Fen
- Also, there is a White Privilege Series at Pilgrim/Hancock
- Stand for Racial Justice and Against Racism, March 30

Other—Diversity Think Tank—will follow-up with Donna or Susie Barry
