1:00 pm in the Ellen Stone Room at Cary Hall
The meeting was called to order at 1:08 pm. The following committee members attended. David
Williams was absent due to a funeral. Leo McSweeney resigned the prior week after moving out
of town.

Minutes of the 2015 meeting were approved as written. Committee members also reviewed and
confirmed their contact information.
Discussion of the nominees came next. Eight nominations were received this year, for Sam Berman,
Bill Hays, Sophia Ho, Elizabeth Landman, Donald Martin, Dick Michelson, Joyce Miller and Anne
(Jerri) O'Neill. Joyce and Donald also were runners-up last year.
After Dick respectfully declined his nomination again this year, the committee reviewed the
remaining seven candidates and took a secret written vote. Bill Hays was the winner. Joyce Miller
and Sophia Ho were first and second runners-up, respectively.
The Cane will be awarded to Bill on Patriots' Day, April 18. The reception for recipients of the White
Tricorn Hat, Minuteman Cane and Outstanding Youth awards will be 2-4 pm on Sunday, April 24 at
the Depot. Our committee is responsible for finger desserts.
Ann and Beverly will notify Bill about the award and celebration details. Ann will contact Bill's wife,
Sue, to arrange a surprise visit and will learn how Bill would prefer his name to be engraved. David
will work with Lynne Pease to prepare the proclamation from the Selectmen. Marie will get the cane
from Theatre Pharmacy engraved and the Senior Center plaque updated; she also will coordinate
with our reception partners and confirm that we may again use John Carroll's convertible. Ann will
coordinate with John, and her husband, Chet, will drive Bill in the parade.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:58 pm.
