HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-04-01-LHRC-min Lexington Human Rights Committee Meeting Minutes April 1, 2016 Present : Judy Crocker, Officer Aidan Evelyn, Norman Cohen, Mary Barry-Ng, Sean Osborne,Linda Vine, Bonnie Brodner, Kristie Demirev, Fuang-Ying Bhumip Khasnabish, Huang, and Pastor Brent Maracle Meeting held at Lexington Community Center, Room 237 at 8:00 a.m. Committee welcomed its new member, Mary B Barry-NG, head of Lexington Middle School Social Studies Dept. Committee voted four books for selection by the library for the fall 2016 program. Once the library chooses a book, the committee will invite a facilitator for book discussion. The books are (in order of preference): 1.Common Ground by J. Anthony Lukas 2.The Good Earth by Pearl Buck 3.Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson 4.The Shot and Tragic Life of Robert Peace by Jeff Hobbs Committee Training by Kristie Demirev is set for June meeting. Committee members are encouraged to join the Patriots’ Day parade. Department Reports: Human Service Dept. 1.200 people came to the Parenting Program on March 19. 2.Next Tuesday’s program is for elementary school parents. 3.Due to the warm winter, only 40 families applied for fuel assistant so far. The program ends in April. School Dept. 1.A six-weekly Cultural Proficiency Class at Clarke Middle School th facilitates by Sean Osborne starts on April 29. 2.Middle Schools are to re-introduce book club. No incident report from Police Dept. The next meeting is on May 6, 2016 at 8:00AM at Lexington Community Center, Room 237. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 am
