HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-01-24-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting January 24, 2024 By Zoom Teleconference Members Present: Glen Bassett and Geetha Padaki, Co-Chairs; Sandy Podgorski, Lorain Marquis, Sue Stering, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Linda Dixon, Yifang Gong, Dave Grabel, Pan Winters, Ashley Rooney, Bonnie Karshbaum Member not Present Sudha Balasuryan, Steve Cole, Kevin Collins, Dabby Harter, Mary Hutton, Julie Miller, Hong Xie Guest: Karen Tayler (VSO) Business  Meeting called to order by Geetha Padaki at 7:02 pm  The minutes of Jan 10th’s meeting were reviewed, corrected, and approved unanimously. MLK Day debrief. Lorian gave a summary of MLK Day. Five TCC members, Lorain, Sue, Cerise, Sandy, and Yifang, participated in the parade. Group Pictures were taken and shared within the TCC. Patriots’ Day Planning  The parade coordinate meeting was held last Wednesday. th  The stakeholder meeting will be on the 15, and a proposal will be sent to SB.  The application form will be ready by next week. Morning parade:  (BK) Girl Scott felt the morning parade always wore them out. Bonnie will keep persuading them to participate.  The youth parade starts at 7:30 am at Cary Memorial, marches through Lexington Center, and goes to the Battle Green Ceremony at 8:00 am.  Look for the possibility of the youth groups from CAAL and IAL participating in the morning parade. Afternoon parade:  Media form: picture of each parade unit for the announcer (Sharon), five sentences to describe the parade unit.  The DAV Department of MA would like to participate in the 2024 Lexington Patriots Day Parade.  The sponsorship letter is waiting for SB approval. We do not ask for money from businesses directly.  People are asking us about the possibility of food trucks. Food is not under TCC’s control.  Sandy is working on the program schedule. LHS has movie night on Saturday.  Bicentennial Band will have concerts after PD (the next Friday and Saturday)  Note from Doug: The road race will be at 9 o'clock (not 10).  Pastor Reebee Garish, LICA, provided clergy information.  Proposed Grand Marshal, Jim Shaw (Lexington Times newspaper, LexMedia Board); consensus to reconsider Jeff Leonard.  On 2025 PD: Ashley: Lex250 expects 250K people. Who will be the Grand Marshal? Glen: We shall focus on this year’s PD.  Add parade judging group, Linda, David, Pam, (Bonnie) to main task list.  Issues about the new rotary (Paul Jenkins): might not be a big deal. We will need input from DPW. The question will be raised in the stakeholders meeting (2/15/2024) Lex250 updates: Cerise Jalelian Memorial Day Preliminary Planning  Geetha went through last year’s tasks and schedule. Nothing should be done before April.  We will explore a musical program including a sing-along.  The Never Fading Poppy Project would like to continue participating in this year’s MD.
