Organizational items D. Bonarrigo • November meeting minutes was unanimously approved • Next Let's Chat will be on 1/27 2. Finalize Parent Survey D. Bonarrigo • The group approved the parent survey. • Principal Donna will send out the survey today. • Survey will be closed in 2 weeks. 3. Playground Plans D. Bonarrigo • The Council reviewed the proposed plans. The goal is to create a quiet area with circular seating and seating walls • LEF grant is $5000. • The Council discussed the pros and cons of each plan. • There will be a meeting between the Principal and PTA President to review and decide which plan is the best. 4. MCAS Changes D. Bonarrigo • MCAS 2.0 will be initiated in Spring 2017. • There will be changes for English and Math. • 4th grade will take the exam on the computer for both English and Math • The change was based on the results of the PARCC Exam. A consortium of States designed the Park Exam. MCAS is just 1 School Based Site Council at Harrington Meeting Minutes 2016 -2017 Academic Year 2 MA. • Kids took the Park Exam using computer performed better than kids on paper. • The long composition in Grade 4 will be gone. The Harrington teachers prepare students to write long composition in the course of a few weeks, not in one day. • The school will prepare students how to use computers before the MCAS. • Science will not change this year but will be reviewed in the future on what is the best content and format for testing. • The Council discussed the purpose of MCAS. The general view is it is more important for the educators to see the trending over time, not so much for individual student. 5. Kindergarten Dismissal D. Bonarrigo • Right now at dismissal time parents can wait in the lobby to pick up kindergarteners. • From 3 -6PM the doors are open so people can enter easily. • This may be a security concern. • One suggestion is that the parents wait outside and let Kindergarten teachers dismiss kids to the parents, instead of allowing parents coming in the building to pick up. • Need to research how other schools are handling this. Item 1 Responsible 1 Due Agenda Topics Held for Future Discussion • The Principal suggested the Council discuss the general dismissal procedure and create a proposal in the next Council meeting. 2
