HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-01-25-TOUR2-minTown of Lexington Tourism Committee Dawn McKenna, Chair (781) 862 -0500 ext 84585 Minutes Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 4:30 — 6:00 pm Parker Room (Lower level Town Office Building) Members Present: Kerry Brandin, Margaret Coppe, Bebe Fai ick, Jon Himmel, Dawn McKenna, Wim Nijenberg Staff Present: Mallory Sullivan, Melisa Tintocalis, Megan Zammuto Center Committee Liaison: Fred Johnson Guests Present: Richard Pagent Members Absent: Trisha Kennealy, Leeying Wu 1) Visitors Center Project and Warrant Article The warrant article has been submitted. Dawn spoke with Board of Selectmen Chair, Suzie Barry and she is interested in exploring possible revenue streams for this project. Dawn also discussed the Arts Cultural Council Grant, and how to creatively finance the project through the Liberty Ride revolving fund, Visitors Center revolving fund and possibly through adding a facility fee onto tickets. Dawn will attend the February 13"' Board of Selectmen's meeting to discuss this matter. Dawn mentioned that she has also met with Selectmen Joe Pato about the project. Margaret asked if the committee should consider private fundraising. Committee members discussed exhibit design, and rising construction costs. 2) Tourism Operations — Staff Updates Liberty Ride Coordinator, Mallory Sullivan introduced herself to the committee. Megan Zammuto updated the committee on progress being made on the online ticketing project. Committee members were asked to review the Liberty Ride brochure. 3) Committee Marketing Strategy The committee discussed the marketing strategy. Richard added comments regarding the measurable goals listed in the strategy. The committee suggested additional edits, and Dawn suggested that she update the documents and bring them back to the next meeting for a vote. The committee reviewed the mission and vision statement. A motion was made to accept the Tourism Committee mission and vision statement as amended. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. The committee discussed Revolutionary Revelry. A motion was made to not move forward with Revolutionary in 2017 due to lack of funding. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. 4) Web Pages Review The committee discussed the tourism web pages designed by Virtual Towns & Schools and Lexington Webmaster Kathy Santos. The committee outlined suggestions for improvements and issues with the current design. Megan Zammuto wrote down all concerns and will provide the suggestions to Kathy Santos for her review. A meeting will also be scheduled with Kathy Santos and Kerry Brandin to go over the list in detail.
