Members Present: John Frey (Chair) Jewel Kuljian, Karen Longeteig, Anne
Senning, Nancy Sofen, Jim Wood, Gerry Paul, Chris Filadoro (Superintendent of
Public Works) Members absent: None
1. Jim Wood was appointed scribe. Minutes of November 10, 2016 were
reviewed and approved.
2. Chris Filadora passed out and reviewed with the committee the By -Law Tree
Removal Applications and activity.
3. The Tree Management Manual update (X) Invasive Insect Species -Asian
Longhorn Beetle, Emerald Ash Borer and other issues were reviewed with
and approved by David Pinsonneault.
Anne Senning presented a 3 page summary of the new material. We have a
Target Tree manual printing date within a month of estimated Spring Town
Meeting completion 2017. Karen Longeteig reviewed her list of
recommended trees. This subcommittee is commended for a terrific
effort(we liked the result also). Both the summary of intent and the
implementation section of the new material, are approved for the Tree
Manual. Thanks to this subcommittee for a task done with great dedication.
4. Joel Custance and his crew planted 2 swanp oaks and 2 pin oaks at the
Masonic Museum grounds (Marrett Road) with the remaining 20 trees to be
planted on Town land.
5. Our subcommittee drafting warrant articles for Tree by -Law changes,
consisting of Anne S, Karen L, Gerry P, and Nancy S. met with the
Selectmen separately to obtain their comments. Nancy S. reviewed the
comments to date with the Tree Committee. In addition Nancy S will
attempt to get on the Planning Boards agenda to review the warrant articles.
We agreed that we needed explicit Town Staff support for the new warrant
articles.
6. Responses to the Tree Inventory RFQ, which was sent out about 5 weeks
ago , have not been received. The RFQ's were sent to Foti, Lexington Lawn
Care, Bartlett, Marquis, and Rines. Karen L. will follow up with Rines to
make sure he received the RFQ.
7. This item by committee voice vote is removed from the agenda.
8. The Tree Committee moved, seconded and passed that Elms (ALB host) and
Tulip Trees (not salt tolerant) should not be on the BETA (Center
Committee) tree list. John Frey will write a letter to BETA on our behalf to
this effect.
9. Will address this agenda item(Spring tree planting at Bloomfield & Percy) at
the next meeting.
10.The first part of this agenda item, Tree losses and damage from the drought
will be taken up at the next meeting.
11.Tree committee meeting time will stay the same, 7:30AM
Other possible items, updates, etc.
a. Spring 2017 tree planting for Meriam Street at Parking lot will be discussed
when Jewel K. returns.
b. The subcommittee of Jim Wood, John Frey and Nancy Sofen are still
planning to meet and map out the Scottish Rite Mass Ave Tree planting
recommendations.
c. Commerative tree plaques remove from agenda.
d. Tree Committee Web Pages. Discuss problems with Suzie Barry or Tom
Case No action taken.
e. Place on next meetings agenda discussing the use of Google share for
keeping teams /members informed on availability of trees Spring 2017. Gerry
Additional Items
Turning Mill Conservation District: They will be provided Karen L draft
document.
Marge Battin in ground marker -Jim W. will speak with the appropriate
Selectmen for future recommendations. We will examine Jack Edisons plaque.
