The minutes of November 2, 2016 were approved with minor corrections. The next meeting is Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in the Parker Room, Town Office Building. Lorain will ask Sam Zales to attend a November or December meeting to discuss volunteer needs and preliminary plans for Martin Luther King Day. The group decided to cancel the meeting scheduled for December 14, 2016. Dates to remember: Holiday party Wednesday, December 7, 6:30 p.m. at Linda Dixon’s o Martin Luther King Day Monday, January 16, 2017 o Patriots Day Monday, April 17, 2017 o Memorial Day Monday, May 29, 2017 o Veterans Day Saturday, November 11, 2017 o Feedback/Discussion on Veterans’ Day Program Regarding some initial concern whether a shortened parade would negatively effect the overall Veterans Day program, two positive outcomes put these concerns to rest: 1) the number of citizens attracted by the parade who followed it all the way into Cary Hall, thus contributing to the large audience; and 2) the inspiring effect on the youth, primarily Scouts, who turned out in large numbers and enjoyed the experience. The indoor ceremony attracted the largest audience in recent history. This was attributed to: 1) the 50th commemoration of the Vietnam War theme; 2) the extensive publicity and news coverage; and 3) the personal outreach efforts to individual veterans. The slideshow added a great deal to the program. In future years, this can be shown before the program begins. It was disappointing that LexMedia didn’t show up. Next year, we can add more ushers to speed up the seating. We’ll keep the program to within sixty minutes. We’ll work to have the program ready several days earlier so we can print it at the Town printing facility vs. Wales Copy. Lorain thanked everyone for their great teamwork, with special thanks to Linda, Sandy and Kim. Patriots Day, Monday, April 17, 2017 We will ask Gina Johnson of Operation Home Ties to charge a fee for participation in the 2017 parade. She has borne the expense of assembling her float in prior Patriots Day parades. Gina needs a flatbed trailer and vehicle for her float. Lorain will check with her son John and is hopeful that he can provide these items. Lorain will send out parade applications beginning this weekend. Holiday Party Linda Dixon will host the Holiday Party and potluck supper on Wednesday, December 7 at 70 Fifer Lane at 6:30 p.m. Members will receive an email reminder with menu signups. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Linda Dixon, Co-Secretary Future Meetings in 2016 November 30 (Parker Room, Town Offices)
