The minutes of April 27, 2016 were approved. Lorain announced that the Langley Winds Concert will be held at Cary Hall on June 9 at 7:30 pm. She asked TCC members to indicate whether they will be attending the concert, to guarantee that enough TCC members will be at the concert to manage TCC responsibilities. Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2016 Rich McDonough will be MC for the ceremonies on the Green. Bill Mix reminded the committee that Captain Parker is not buried in Lexington and the monument in the Old Burying Ground is just a memorial, not a grave stone. Bill Mix confirmed that Sam Doran will be participating in the Memorial Day parade stop in Munroe Cemetery to honor the Civil War soldiers. Sam will attend the TCC meeting on 5/25. Bob Tracey and Wayne Miller confirmed that the wreaths have been ordered from White House Gardens. Bob and Wayne will obtain water for the parade and the ceremony on the Green. The amount of water provided will depend on the weather. There was a discussion about contacting Dawn McKenna to ensure that the sound system for the parade is available. Lorain will call Dawn about it. Gina Rada asked what she should tell veterans who want to march in the Memorial Day parade. The committee confirmed that all veterans who want to can march in the parade. They should come to the Hosmer House parking lot at 9:30 am and a place for them in the parade will be identified. Gina Rada agreed to read the Flanders Field poem at Westview Cemetery as part of the ceremonies at the cemetery at 9:00 am. Gina mentioned that help from TCC members would be appreciated when flags are placed on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day. She will send an email to the committee with dates and times. Carol Flynn confirmed that there will be Girl Scouts at the parade to help carry the wreaths. Cerise Jalelian is contacting the Boy Scouts. Linda Dixon announced that Bill Tighe has agreed to be Grand Marshal for the parade. Bill and his two aides will travel in Peter Kelly’s car. Linda also announced that Sam Berman has agreed to be the speaker at the ceremonies at the Green and that Gresh Lattimore will be the narrator for the wreath-laying ceremonies that are part of the parade. Lauren Lorincz, pastor of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Lexington, will give the invocation and benediction at the ceremonies on the Green. The Memorial Day Program was discussed and times for the various activities were confirmed. It was requested that Carol ask the Girl Scouts about laying carnations at the Civil War portion of the parade. Do they want to do it? Do they pay for the carnations? Program will be updated to include discussion of WWI while the wreath layers are at the obelisk. Program and parade narrator script and MC scripts need to be synchronized. There was a discussion of how to handle the parade audience at the Old Burying Ground so that the audience will be moved to open areas where they can observe the ceremonies instead of getting blocked at the path into the Old Burying Ground. It was decided that TCC members need to position themselves so that they can direct the public into the cemetery area beyond the path. Linda Dixon will write two articles for the Lexington Minuteman paper: one about Grand Marshal Bill Tighe and one about Sam Berman who will be the speaker at the ceremonies. Suzanne to send the final Memorial Day Program to the Lexington Minuteman and Colonial Times for publication. A walk-through of the parade for the TCC members will be held on Thursday, 5/26 at 9:30 am, leaving from the Hosmer House parking lot. There was discussion about bagging parking meters with no parking signs in front of Cary Hall, on Mass Ave from Buckman Tavern to Hancock St, to allow space for the LHS Band in the street.
