HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-10-31-PBC-minTOWN OF LEXINGTON Permanent Building Committee For the Public Safety Designer Interviews, Contract 17 -24 Location: 201 Bedford Street, Meeting Room 221 Date: October 31, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Selection Committee Present: Dick Perry (PBC), Joe Sirkovich (PBC), Mark Corr (Police Chief), John Wilson (Fire Chief), Mark Barrett (DPF Project Manager), and Patrick Goddard (DPF Director) Minutes: Patrick Goddard, Director of Public Facilities At 3:08 PM, Douglas Roberts, principal -in- charge of JCJ Architects, introduced the team and then began the presentation for JCJ Architects and Caolo and Bienek. The presentation provided an overview of the team capabilities to provide the services required for the project and the schedule to complete the work. The presentation also included comparable projects in other communities that included aspects similar to Lexington requirements. After the presentation, the Selection Committee asked questions concerning the temporary structure, design vision, Massachusetts construction bidding regulations, traffic analysis, design for sustainability, and security features of public buildings. At approximately 4:00 PM, Jeffrey McElravy, principal of Tecton Architects, introduced the team and then began the presentation for Tecton Architects and Pacheco Ross. The presentation provided an overview of the team capabilities to provide the services required for the project, with Tecton Architects taking the lead for the Police Station and Pacheco Ross taking the lead for the Fire Station, and the schedule to complete the work. The presentation also included comparable projects in other communities that included aspects similar to Lexington requirements. After the presentation, the Selection Committee again asked questions concerning the temporary structure, design vision, Massachusetts construction bidding regulations, traffic analysis, design for sustainability, and security features of public buildings. At approximately 5:00 PM, Jeff Shaw, principal of Donham & Sweeney Architects, introduced the team and then began the presentation. The presentation provided an overview of the team capabilities to provide the services required for the project, and the schedule to complete the work. The presentation also included comparable projects in other communities that included aspects similar to Lexington requirements. After the presentation, the Selection Committee again asked questions concerning the temporary structure, design vision, Massachusetts construction bidding regulations, traffic analysis, design for sustainability, and security features of public buildings. At the conclusion of the interviews, the Selection Committee began deliberations on the ranking of the three firms for contract negotiations. The committee agreed that all three firms were well qualified to perform the work. At the conclusion of deliberations, the committee overwhelmingly ranked the team of Tecton Architects and Pacheco and Ross number one for contract negotiations. The primary difference was the strength of the Page 1 team, their interaction during the interview that demonstrated collaboration and good communication, and their commitment to an open and collaborative process with the community. Donham & Sweeney was selected number two. The meeting adjourned at 6:35 PM. Page 2
