Wants it related to DRUM for: support World Language week with multi-cultural drummers; DRUM shout outs - recognition incentives for DRUM, etc.; mural with DRUM theme in an area that will not be touched by construction. Discussion on support for the mural Teacher suggestion for incentive products that relate to fidget tools Update on Child Study Today is the first day that the team will meet Will be a work in progress; update in a month, if requested Construction Update New wing and cafe are on track to open for the first day in the Fall During the summer of 2017, main office, nurseÓs office will be closed (summer work in CO?). Demolition for HVAC will begin. Entire system will be replaced. Some of the work will take place during the school year, using the portable classrooms for temporary housing (6 - 8 weeks). Science classrooms will not need to move. Meeting today with staff to update Classroom Move Committee on details. December 19 Staff Mtg to present to all. Lighting - trailers have bright lights. Principal will check on auditorium section and front parking lot. Lot C has been repainted for better space sizes. In the winter the cars parked on the front lawn will need to come out back. PTA Coffees early November for Technology update and discussion on iPads. Updates and FAQs were in last PrincipalÓs Newsletter. Next coffee will be January 13 - presentation by Counseling Department to discuss roles and responsibilities; March 3 - STEM presentation by math and science department heads, to discuss curriculum;; April 28 - Homework discussion (faculty meeting scheduled to discuss before this). District is rewriting the homework policy so we need to wait on that before we can make any changes; Superintendent and LEA President will be going on Listening Tours to schools in January. Discussion - will we be doing student surveys or having discussions with students during a WIN block? Parent Conferences Two more days for conferences. First year with all four person conferences. Principal is working on a Parent Survey - theme more on what do they want from a conference than did they like this yearÓs model. What do parents and teachers want/need for a conference? Was there an impact because we did not have Back to School Night? Teachers have had survey opportunities to give feedback in the past but now might go with Focus Groups for January to discuss questions and discuss. Use surveys and focus group input to discuss next steps, including differences in the number of conferences for team teachers vs. elective teachers vs. special ed teachers. Member Input Parent Question: Science Bowl Club will be new this year. Group was looking for a teacher to help lead the club. PTA offered the stipend for this year, but next year may not be the same case. Can this year be under the current model? Compensating teachers for club work individually instead of the task? PrincipalÓs explanation - district decision to eliminate PTA stipends and use the contract. This year, she was allowed to hold off on the change for this year only. May be able to add one more club for this year. Parents would like to have some input into the change. Is this a LEA policy or from the Business Office? There is little flexibility in the new policy. Will need to wait for a new position to be put in the contract meaning one year of volunteering. Could parents hire their own outside person to get paid by PTA? Principal would need to look into this. Can PTA use grants to pay for these type of positions similar to LEF grants? How is Clarke handling this science club position?
