Members Present: John Frey (Chair), Jewel Kuljian, Karen Longeteig, Anne Senning, Nancy Sofen, Jim Wood Members Absent: Gerry Paul, Chris Filadoro, Superintendent of Public Works 1. Appoint scribe: As Jim Wood had to leave the meeting early, he traded scribe duties for this meeting with th Karen Longeteig, who was appointed. The minutes of October 13 meeting were reviewed and approved with minor changes. 2.Bylaw activity: In the absence of Chris Filadoro, the Committee could not discuss this item, and it was postponed, as were items 5, 6, 7 and 8. 3.Tree Management Manual update: John Frey and Anne Senning have set a time to meet with DPW Superintendent David Pinsonneault regarding the ALB and EAB section of the tree manual; it will be on th Friday Nov. 18 at 8:00 a.m. th 4.Fall tree planting: The 24 trees arrived November 4 and are heeled in at the DPW. There are 8 Swamp Oaks, 8 Pin Oaks, and 8 Yellowwoods, all bareroot and 9-10 ft. tall. Jim has done the Dig Safe requests, th already effective October 25. There are to be 4 trees planted on Marrett Road near the Community Center. Nancy Sofen, Jim and John are to inspect the old Sugar Maples on Mass Ave at the Scottish Rite property, with a view to planning, with the property owners, their eventual replacements. Jim hopes for a species colorful in the fall – suggestions were Scarlet Oak, Blackgum/Tupelo, Sweetgum, Yellowwood, Pin Oak, and Hickory. 9. Warrant articles for Tree Bylaw changes: Nancy has proposed times set up with each Selectperson individually. Tuesday, 11/15 at 4:00 pm: Nancy and Anne will attend. Wednesday 11/16, 10:30 a.m. with Joe Pato: Nancy and Karen, and at 11:00 same day Norman Cohen with Nancy and one other (Karen if no one else volunteers.) Appointments with Michelle Ciccolo and Peter Kelly are still being sought. Nancy presented an outline of the explanation for the proposed warrant article that we will present to the Selectmen. Suggested revisions were offered, and Nancy will revise and resend to the Committee. Other: Jewel expressed the Garden Club’s appreciation to Chris for the work on the Traffic Island at Hancock and Revere Streets. Other: Karen’s edit of the tree species recommendation part of the Tree Management Manual was reviewed after the close of the official meeting by John, Anne, Nancy and Jewel. Karen will revise it again and send it electronically to these reviewers.
