StaffReportsandprogramupdates:KellyAxtell circulatedasignupchartforCOABoardƒĻƒĬĻƩƭ͸ participationinThanksgivingandDecemberHolidayluncheons.Shereportedthatshehasreceived40 callsforͻ{ğƓķforSeniorstƩƚŭƩğƒͼͳthedeadlinetoapplyfortheprogramisbeforeThanksgiving. CharlotteRodgers calledattentiontotheCouncilonAgingAnnualReport,2016printedonthebackof theagendaandnotedthataCOABoardphotographwillbetakeninDecember.Shealsonotedthatthe HumanServicesBudgetbasedonlevelservicesandlevelfundinghasbeensubmitted;thattheElder Affairsgrantmaybedecreasedby$10,000;andthatrebiddingfortheLexpresscontractisunderway withbidstobeopenedonNovember14.Thenewcontractprobablywillbeforfouryearswith additionaltwoyearoptions.HemaliPatel reportedonthehighlysuccessfulpresentationonͻ5ĻƌźǝĻƩźƓŭ SeniorServicesinaMultigenerationalCommunity/ĻƓƷĻƩͼattheMCOAFallConferenceonOctober26 Inwhichshe,SheilaButtss,CharlotteRodgers,andLindaVineparticipated.Shealsoannouncedthata tripisplannedforSundayNovember13totheNewportPlayhouseandthatmoviesarenowshownon TuesdaymorningsandThursdayafternoons. SeniorProgrammingMeetingupdate:HemaliPatelreportedthatfiveofthetenmemberSenior ProgrammingCommitteemettodiscussmissionandgoals.Theyagreedthatallkindsofprogramming notsimplytripsweretobeconsidered.Theyalsothoughtthataͻğƌƌ{ŷźƦƭͼtripinthespringwouldbe desirable.Thecommitteewillmeetquarterly;thenextmeeting,therefore,willbeinlateJanuary. FCOAMiniGrantPilotProgramupdate:JaneTrudeaupresentedtheslightlyrevisedminigrantpilot programproposalandrespondedtoquestions.ShenotedthatFCOAseesthepilotprogramasawayto raisefundsfromlocalbusinessesandindicatedthatproposalinformationwillbeavailableonDecember 1.FollowingWğƓĻ͸ƭpresentationtheCOABoardunanimouslyvoteditssupportoftheconceptofthe pilotprogramandindicatedthatonemember(HarryMackay)willserveontheͻǞƚƩƉźƓŭĭƚƒƒźƷƷĻĻ͵ͼ NewBusinessandAnnouncements:NarainBhatia presentedaproposaltosponsorastudyofisolated elderlylivinginLexingtonthroughastudyofͻğŭźƓŭandĭƚŭƓźƷźƚƓ͵ͼTheproposedpilotprogramwould interview100150peopletodeterminetheservicestheyreceiveandneed.WhiletheCOAexpressed interestintheproposedpilotstudy,theBoardconsideredthattheyneededmoreinformationand recommendedthatMr.BhatiaprepareawrittenproposaltobeplacedonthenextCOABoardMeeting agenda.StimulatedbyU.MassBostonresearchoncommunityneedsassessmentpresentedatthe MCOAConference,CharlotteRodgers announcedthatsheplanstobringaproposalforaLexington communityneedsassessmenttothenextCOABoardmeetingandthatultimatelysuchaproposalmight formthebasisofaDanaHomeFoundationgrant.SheilaButts explainedthatonelectionday, November8,morningprogramshavebeencancelled,becauseparkingwillbeavailableonlyforvoters until2:00pm.SophiaHo suggestedthatpresentersofNewBusinessideasbeaskedtomakeawritten outlineforCOABoardmemberswheneverpossible. LiaisonReports:RecreationDepartment Γ9ƌƌĻƓCameronsaidthatADAhaspreparedareportonthe fieldsinLexington.CommunityCenterProgramAdvisory/ƚƒƒźƷƷĻĻΓ NancyAdlerreportedthata meetingtodiscusswhattheyaregoingtobedoinghasbeenheld.Disability/ƚƒƒźƭƭźƚƓΓ HarryMackay reportedthatthebrick/concretediscussionfordowntownsidewalkscontinues.TownManager RecyclingandTrashTaskCƚƩĭĻΓ GerryHowellreportedthattheTaskForcehassubmitteditsreportto theSelectmen;MichelleCiccolonotedthatanRFPhasbeendevelopedasapreludetoawardinga contract. NextMeeting:December7,2016 Respectfullysubmitted, MarionKilson,Secretary PROPOSALTOFUNDAMINIGRANTPROGRAMBYTHEFCOA Objective ToencourageinnovationinSeniorprogramming,toenrichandenhanceprogrammingforSeniorsatthe CommunityCenterbygivingvoicetoourSeniors,providingopportunitiesoutsideofbudgettoSenior Servicesstaffandincentivestonewproviders. TheFriendsoftheCOAhavealwaysbeenproudoftheexcellentcurrentprogrammingprovidedbythe COAandouroutstandingHumanServicesstaff.Aspartofitsmission,however,theFCOAhopesto broadenawarenessandsupportinthewholecommunityfortheeffortsoftheCOAwiththisnewgrant program.Byofferingthesegrants,wehopetoencourageALLmembersoftheLexingtoncommunityto considernewwaysofprovidingstimulating,enrichingactivitiesforLexingtonseniors.Andincreased awarenessandsupportinthecommunityshouldleadtomoresuccessfulfundraisingopportunitiesin thefuture. Proposed 1.Afivepersonworkingcommitteemadeupofastaffmember,COArepresentativeandmembers oftheFCOAboardtoimplementtheprogram,reviewgrantproposals,andrecommendsuitable granteestotheCOAforapprovalandtostaffastofeasibility. 2.Wehopethegrantproposalswillbetofundnewinnovativeprogramsorenhancementsto existingprograms,purchaseofequipmenttobenefitSeniorsattheCommunityCenter,and salariesforalimitedtime.Thiscanincludeoperationalexpenses,suchasextratimefora VolunteerCoordinator,equipmentsuchascomputersforSenioruse,orresearchingnew technologiestoserveLexingtonSeniors. 3.GrantproposalscanbemadebyLexingtonresidentsandLexingtonorganizations,including LexingtonSeniorServicesandCommunityCenterstaff.NonLexingtonresidentswhoare currentlyprovidingservicestoSeniorsattheCommunityCenterarealsoeligibletoapply. 4.Apossiblecycleforthefirstroundofgrantswouldbe: a.Early2017:Advertiseprogram; b.EndofApril2017:Deadlineforsubmissionofapplications; c.EndofJune2017:Grantawardsdeterminedandapplicantsnotified; d.GrantsrequiringuseofCommunityCenterresourceswillbescheduledbystafffor FY2018(7/1/17through6/30/18). 5.Grantprojectswillbemonitoredbytheworkingcommittee,toensurethattheyarebeing carriedoutaccordingtothegrantproposaldescriptionandbudget. 6.Evaluationofthegrantprojectswillbecarriedoutimmediatelyaftertheendoftheprojectby theworkingcommitteeandresultsreportedbacktotheCOAandFriendsoftheCOA. ExampleGrantProjects ThefollowingareexamplesofthetypeofgrantproposalsthattheFCOAhopestoreceive: PuttingonachambermusicconcertintheLibraryareaoftheCommunityCenter.Theobjective ofthisgrantwouldbetoprovideafreeculturalactivitythatwouldbeeasyforSeniorstoattend. PayingpartofthecostsofhiringaVolunteerCoordinator,foralimitedtime,inordertoassist theSeniorServicesstafftodemonstratetheneedforandvalueofsuchaposition.Theobjective permanentfundingwouldbe ofthisgrantwouldbetoprovethevalueofsuchapositionsothat providedbytheTown. Assistingtheͻ\[ĻǣźƓŭƷƚƓwĻƒĻƒĬĻƩƭͼcommitteetocreateandwidelydisseminateinformation aboutthecontentoutputoftheirgroupandhowtoobtaintheirvideos.Theobjectiveofthis grantwouldbetoincreaseawarenessofanduseofthevideos. PendingIssues TheFundRaisingsubcommitteeoftheFCOAproposesamaximumgrantamountof$3000. ThesubcommitteeplanstosolicitsupportingcontributionsfromtheLexingtonbusinesscommunityfor specificgrantprojects.Solicitationswillbetargetedtobusinesseswhomightseevalueinbeing associatedwithspecificprojects.ContributionsfrombusinesseswillbemadetotheFCOA,andtheir supportwillbeacknowledgedappropriatelyinadvertisingoftheprojects.Forexample,advertisingmay sayͻ–—œprogramismadepossiblebyagrantfromtheFriendsoftheCOA,withsupportfromABC ĭƚƒƦğƓǤ͵ͼ
