ThereisgeneralagreementthattheconceptoftheDiversityThinkTank,introducedtousbytheWalnutValleyUnified SchoolDistrict(WVUSD)shouldbeadoptedΑcertainlyfortheschoolsandpossiblyfortheTown.Therewasalsobroad agreementthatsomekindofdiversitytrainingshouldbedeliveredtoallsixcategoriesofstakeholders,butwedidnot discussanydetailsforthetraining.MargaretHeitzsuggestedthattheDialogueonRaceandEthnicity,runbytheYWCA, mightbeausefulmodel.Weagreedthattrainingshouldbeongoing.(WVUSDtrains150outof600teachersannually). FortheAsiancommunityorganizations,thetrainingshouldfocusonhowtofitintothecommunityΛͻ!ƭƭźƒźƌğƷźƚƓͼwas usedbyPeterLee). Themostcommonsuggestionreceivedinthesurveys,thedialoguesandtheWVUSDvisitwas:Getoutandgettoknow themembersoftheAsiancommunities;gettoknowtheirleaders;askthemtocoffee;getoutintothecommunity. ThusoneoftherecommendationswillbethattheTownManagerandtheBoardofSelectmenincreasetheircontacts withtheAsiancommunities,notsimplythroughformalmeetingsbutininformalsettings,suchasovercoffee. AnothersuggestionfortheTownManageristoexploreadaptingtheCupertinopracticeofblockpartiestobring neighborstogether.(TheblockpartyidealedtoabriefdiscussionofPrecinctmeetingsandthepossiblechallengeof findingasuitablevenueinLexington). WealsodiscussedcelebrationsthatwouldhighlighttheƚǞƓ͸ƭdiversity,perhapsalongthelinesofLexFestandthe annualcelebrationinArlington. FortheSuperintendent,wemightsuggestsomethingalongthelinesoftheStudentAdvisoryGroup(studentsfrom grades5to12)andtheWellnessCenter.BothareusedatWVUSD.
