HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-01-18-YC-minTown of Lexington Lexington Youth Commission Minutes of the Meeting Held on Thursday,January 18th,2024 A Meeting of the Lexington Youth Commission was held on Thursday,January 18th,2023.The meeting began at 7:00pm in the LHS Library Media Center Absent:Jimmy Athens,Kristina Hankins,Sonal Setty,Tasneem Ghadiali,Margot Byers, Shannon DeGuglielmo,Eliza Babson,Arden Carney,Nina Arnold,Gabriella Costello,Adeline Favazzo. Present:Debra Hankins,John Kefalas,Duncan Maloney,Sofia Saleeby,Charlie Swan,Sadie Maloney,Kimly Nguyen,Sophie Read,Victoria Wu,Alice Ma,Tom Romano,Eva Benet,Ava Kieval,Sarah Beuttell,Aaron Yu,Sophie Glavine,Doug Lucente,Isabella Barbesino,Owen Rosenthal,Meera Krishnan,Jack Gehring,Sarah Kochi,Alexis Chen,Sarah Chen,Hannah Kieval,Keya Doshi 1.Reading of December,2023 Minutes and Approve -Sofia read through the December minutes from the last meeting.They were approved by the committee and sent to archives. 2.Senior Valentine Luncheon,St.Patrick Day Luncheon -Tom talked about the Senior Luncheons.At this time they are only taking 3-4 volunteers. We are going to pass on the lunches,and are hoping down the road they will have other opportunities for LYC to go as a group and interact with the Seniors. 3.Valentine Day Cards for Nursing Homes and Community Center Seniors -Deb talked about the Valentines Day Cards.We will be delivering these cards to our nursing homes in the area,along with cards to the Community Center for the Seniors. -Each member received an envelope with valentine cards,envelopes,stickers,and a sheet with ideas you can write in the cards.Each card should have a personal note inside,sign your name or Lexington Youth Commission,with a sticker on it. -Everyone must bring their completed cards back to the next meeting.If you are not able to attend the meeting ,make sure your cards are delivered prior to the meeting. We will be distributing the cards that evening. - 4.Lions EyeGlass Project,March 2024 -Duncan described the project we do with The Lions Club If usable these glasses are sent to third world countries where they are distributed to people who have vision problem.s We as a committee will come together and clean the glasses.Last year,in one sitting we cleaned over 3,000 glasses. -We are scheduling the event for Saturday,March 23 from 12:00 -2 00 pm at C&W We will talk about it at our March meeting and confirm attendance.. 5.Tom’s Time -Tom described how there will be another silent disco at the community center.The silent disco is on March 15th.If you are interested please email Tom. -There are also summer job opportunities.The deadline for applications is March 1st.If you are interested,this is the link to apply for a job. 6.PATRIOTS Day 2024 - -We will be participating in the April 15th afternoon parade this year.We will be handing out American flags along the parade route.We will decorate the Golf Cart on Saturday, April 13th at Arlex,and march in the Parade on the 15th. -More details and times to come. 7.Patriots Day -and ideas for 2025 Celebration -Doug Lucente spoke about our commission building a float for the 2025 parade.We would like to start thinking about a design and what we would like to see. -Also we are looking at running a 250th Celebration event during 2025.We have the Community Center available to us.Everyone please come up with ideas for the next meeting about how we could celebrate the 250th anniversary. 8.Final Comments and Wrap Up -Thank you to everyone for being flexible about the change of the meeting for this month. -Also try to think about recruiting more freshman and sophomore for next year.See Deb for the application forms.
