4.Updated School Innovation Plan
Progress is now linked
HERE
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and
Supports)-Hawks acronym created to support
PBIS
●Part of school Innovation Plan is to
look at progress toward MTSS
(Multi-tiered System of Support)
●Looking for all the areas in the school
where positive behavior exists
●Reviewed expectations (HAWKS)as
well as positive reinforcement
procedures at Harrington
●At recent staff meeting,we reviewed
our 2011 HAWKS Behavior Matrix to
determine what
changes/improvements we can make -
what do we want to keep, what do we
want to change
●Ryan suggested a column on the
behavior matrix for times when
students are using technology
●Rory brought up possibility of getting
ideas from students (student agency)
●Rory opened question to the group
●Ryan mentioned that there can be
social difficulties during recess
●Melissa suggested highlighting the
collaboration that occurs on the soccer
fields between students
●Melissa added that students would
take positive messages they heard
from staff and repeat it to each other.
●Ryan suggested empowering students
by asking each other,“think about
what your coach would say ”
●Rachel added that it ’s important to
cultivate respect and tolerance when it
comes to student effort (finishing first,
competition,etc.)
●Melissa brought up how it can be
difficult to always witness students
who have done positive things (equity
of Hawks sightings,etc.)-maybe a few
times a year, students could write their
own Hawk sighting -what did you do
that you are proud of?Helps when
teachers don’t see it all.
●Rory mentioned we are looking at also
creating an electronic version of the
HAWKS sighting to improve efficiency
and make it easier
5.Administrators goals for this year
6.PBIS Update
●Still dealing with the fallouts of COVID
●We are looking at what are some of
the things we can do to identify areas
of growth for students (UDL,etc)
●What are we doing as a school to work
on closing the achievement gaps?
●This is a district effort to take a look at
disproportionality across all of the
school levels (elementary,middle and
high school)
●We have had discussions as a school
regarding MCAS scores
●Rory said that we are looking at our
whole intervention system
●Rachel suggested that she hopes the
district is looking at it as a whole child
approach when looking at the scores.
New business:●Melissa made a motion to adjourn and was
seconded by Ryan.Motion was approved.
Meeting adjourned at 9:18.
