HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-10-27-VISION2025-min Town of Lexington Vision for Lexington Committee Meeting October 27, 2023 Remote Meeting 7:45 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Members Present: Margaret Coppe, Jill Hai, Kathleen Lenihan, John Giudice, Shannon Murtagh, Robert Peters, Weidong Wang, Min Zhou, Marian Cohen, Andrew Dixon, Bhumip Khasnabish, Daniel Joyner, Carol Marine Guests: Sara del Nido Budish, Jyotsna Kakullavarapu Staff Present: James Robinson Absent: The meeting was called to order: 7:50 am The Remote Meeting Script was read by Margaret Coppe Minutes:  The minutes from August 25, 2023 and September 29, 2023 were unanimously approved. Meeting Highlights: VFL Website Report on Emails Daniel Joyner provided an update on emails received by the VFL Committee and noted that a review of the webpage will be conducted to make improvements. Appointments to VFL: Margaret Coppe shared that there are currently two vacancies on the VFL Committee and will be accepting applications through the Select Board’s Office Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity There was no update. Update on Subcommittee on Voter Participation in Lexington Marian Cohen gave an update of the Subcommittee’s previous meeting. Margaret Coppe shared that they attended a media literacy event that included misinformation, local news, and democracy. Marian Cohen shared that it will be an effort of the Subcommittee to demonstrate why people should run for local office. The implications of low voter turnout was also discussed. The Subcommittee will work to synthesize their research and discussion into a report containing recommendations. Jill Hai discussed the Special Town Meeting Article on Ranked Choice Voting and asked if the Subcommittee will be taking a formal position on the Article. Marian Cohen and Margaret Coppe noted that they had not taken a formal position yet and are not scheduled to meet prior to the Special Town Meeting; they indicated that they would follow up with the Chair of the Subcommittee. Update on Subcommittee for Sharing Survey Information John Giudice provided an update on the Subcommittee’s work and shared that the next VFL meeting will be a chance for the Subcommittee to share the status of its deliverables, including a powerpoint presentation. Public Comment Jyotsna Kakullavarapu gave an update on the work of the Council on Aging and Senior Services Department including cultural and interfaith events; and shared that more structured updates will be provided to VFL. th Next Meeting: December 15, 2023 @ 7:45am Adjourn: 8:45am
