r MEETING OF JUNE 22, 1993

The meeting of the Lexington Planning Board held in Estabrook Hall was called
to order at 8 05 p m. by Chairman Williams, with members Davison, Domnitz, and
Secretary Tap present. Mr Grant arrived late. Mr. Canale was not present
Ten people were in the audience.

98. Middlesex County Hospital Land Mr Williams described the subject of
this informational hearing. Middlesex County government wants to build a golf
driving range on a portion of the County Hospital land. He then turned the
meeting over to three representatives of Middlesex County. Charles Boyle,
legal counsel to the County Hospital, Joseph Grillo, Director of Hospital
Volunteers and John Tobin, Executive Assistant to the Hospital Director.
All present came up to view the very preliminary plans for the project. Mr.
Grillo described the proposed driving range and what changes to the existing
site were planned. He said it is the County's aim to disturb the area as
little as possible while creating a safe and attractive facility. They want
to be "a good neighbor" and are willing to address the concerns of the
neighbors They believe Middlesex County is not bound by local zoning
regulations. The hospital has not submitted plans or met with the County
Advisory Board that must approve major expenditures.
No lighting is planned. A professional traffic study will be done and the
results shared with concerned groups. The Planning Board and the others
present had many questions and the County representatives answered as well as
they could with the preliminary data they had. They agreed to keep the Town
and neighbors informed of their progress on an ongoing basis.
