Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy called the December 7, 2023 Historic Districts Commission meeting to
order at 6:04pm.
FORMAL HEARING
Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy opened the continued hearing for 1 Bedford Street, exterior changes
(Signage) in the Battle Green Historic District

Photographs of entire place of each building elevation visible from the public way: dated October 19, 2023

The applicants explained the proposed national America 250 Patriots Marker plans for the 250th
Anniversary of the American Revolution at 1 Bedford Street.
The Commission felt that the design of the monument was appropriate, but the location was problematic.
They agreed to continue this hearing to next HDC meeting working with Monuments & Memories
Committee.
Dawn McKenna, 9 Hancock Street, expressed her oppose to the proposed site of this marker. She
suggested HDC deferring this application and working through Monuments & Memories Committee to
find an appropriate location and make sure ultimately that the Board of Selectmen feels that is appropriate
to accept it before the regulatory board approves it.

Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy opened the formal hearing for 1666 Massachusetts Avenue, exterior
alterations (Door replacements) in the Battle Green Historic District

The applicants explained the proposed doors replacement plans to 1666 Massachusetts Avenue.
The Commission felt this application was appropriate.
No public comments.
Motion was granted and seconded to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to
1666 Massachusetts Avenue. Motion carried, all in favor.

Motion was granted and seconded to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to
1912 Massachusetts Avenue. Motion carried, all in favor.

Discussion – Center rejuvenation effort – impact on guidelines, streetscape, façade facing onto
parking areas
The Commission discussed the guidelines and streetscape of rear façade of buildings at Town Center.
Consideration on Election of Chair, selection of a Vice Chair
The Commission made a motion to approve the election of Paul O’Shaughnessy as the Chair of
HDC and selection of Lee Noel Chase as the Vice Chair of HDC. Motion carried. All in favor.
The Commission made a motion to adjourn at 8:12pm. Motion carried. All in favor.
