October 13, 2016: Meeting Minutes
Members in Attendance: Yi Yang, Sean Han , Dan Strollo, Deepika Sawhney, Jen Turner,
Catherine Findlay, Krystal LeClerc, Curt Barrentine - on speaker phone
Note - taker: Liz Sharp
Co -Chair to share duties with Jen. Dan Strollo unanimously voted in.
Proposed Meeting Dates: will alternate between 7 AM and 3:30 PM times; can change as
needed
Review of SIP (Guiding document for the work being done in the next year).
• Goal 1: Improve academic performance for all students
o PLC work
o Explore additional ways to make learning accessible
• RTI and VVIN tie -ins
o iPad initiative
o Child study and support system
• Changing the term "child study" to RTI system
• Child Study Team will meet weekly to receive referrals from teachers who
need help with the next steps for helping the teachers either with
additional strategies or recommend intervention classes
• RTI Committee will serve as the advisory and will continue to meet to help
develop the Child Study Team protocols and the RTI process
• "Other child study teams" will not be used. The RTI Committee will
support the process. The only Child Study Team will be the name for the
problem - solving meetings.
• TAKOM protocols can still be used but no new training this year
• A lot of time will be spent on this goal this year; will refine processes and
can expand; will also have time to proactively use data to enhance
• Goal 2: Increase student pro - social behavior and resiliency
o Community - building and pro - social skills
o DRUM symbol and acronym will be used this year
o MARC presentation will be on October 19, 6:30 PM here at Diamond for parents
o We will be administering the Youth Behavior Risk Survey again this year
o RTI blocks refer to our VVIN blocks (two each week)
o Additional work for supporting the adults' stress levels (January half day for staff
wellness focus)
• Goal 3: Building project
o Work continues; a bit behind but progressing
• Goal 4: Communicating effectively
o Jen is developing a newsletter to send out to parents and staff (potentially
quarterly)
o Also, blogs and twitter communications
• Virtual Back -to- School Night feedback presented by Deepika based on emails she has
received from other parents
• Question about the sex education classes.
o Health curriculum and information includes how parents can preview the
materials and opt out of the unit
