Minutes of the Meeting Held on Thursday,November 9th,2023
A Meeting of the Lexington Youth Commission was held on Thursday,November 9th,2023.The
meeting began at 7:00pm in the LHS Library Media Center
Absent:Jimmy Athens,Kristina Hankins,John Kefalas,Izzy Barbesino,Doug Lucente,Owen
Rosenthal,Meera Krishnan,Sonal Setty.
Present:Debra Hankins,Shannon DeGuglielmo,Duncan Maloney,Sofia Saleeby,Charlie
Swan,Sadie Maloney,Kimly Nguyen,Margot Byers,Sophie Read,Eliza Babson,Arden Carney,
Nina Arnold,Victoria Wu,Alice Ma,Tom Romano,Gabriella Costello,Adeline Favazzo,Sarah
Kochi,Alexis Chen,Sarah Chen,Eva Benet,Ava Kieval,Hannah Kieval,Sarah Beuttell,Aaron
Yu,Keya Doshi,Jack Gehring,Tasneem Ghadiali,Sophie Glavine.
October Minutes:Sofia Saleeby read October meeting minutes,which were approved by the
Committee.
Debrief on Halloween Balloon Hanging -Charlie debriefed the balloon hanging where we
walked around Lexington Center and hung orange,white,and black balloons.Everyone met at
the quad and walked around in groups of 3-4.We all agreed it was very successful,and enjoyed
the pizza they provided.
Food Pantry –2000 Pound Challenge
-C&W November 11 at Noon sorting,bagging,and delivery to Lexington Food Pantry
-Duncan talked about the food pantry event coming up.You all collected bags that were
given out last meeting from people to bring to the event.This is where we sort them to
see if they are expired or have dents.Then bring them to the food pantry.We will have
pizza for everyone at the end of the event.We need 2000 pounds of food to meet our
goal!
Senior Luncheon
-Push event to February and March for scheduling issues
-We will have more information on this event in upcoming meetings
Turkey Delivery’s Wednesday November 22nd 2:30 pm
Go to C&W where we have many turkey dinners.We drive around and deliver the dinners to
youth and family services and for families in need that cannot afford to splurge for Thanksgiving.
-People who can drive during the event:Duncan,Arden C,Nina A,Charlie S,and
Hannah K
-Confidentiality is key:do not discuss any information about the families who receive the
dinners.
-If there are any issues on the day of the event,please contact Shannon immediately,she
will give you her phone number when you pick up the dinners.
Depot Square Tree Lighting and Santa’s Arrival on Fire Engine
-Friday,Nov 25 at 5:00 pm at William Raveis,1713 Mass Ave
-This is where we hand out bells and candy canes.
-There will be Christmas Carols Sing-A-Long and costumes!!(elf,grinch,snowman,polar
bear,santa,santa hats,etc.)
-There will be food and snacks available for us at Raveis,before we head to the Depot to
spread Holiday Cheer!
-Dress for the weather!!
Toys for Tots,Saturday,December 2nd ,Tthe event runs from 12:00 -4:00 pm in front of CVS
-Detective Mike Sowle came to speak about the event
-We will be stuffing a cruiser (police van)with donations of toys.Our holiday costumes
will be cleaned and ready,in our advertisement we are asking people to bring one
unwrapped new toy,and take a picture with The grinch,Polar Bear,Snowman.etc….
On average they get 10-12 boxes of toys each year,please spread the word,with LYC
participating this year for the first time,we want to be over the TOP.Deb is thinking we
can fill 18 boxes.The Challenge is on.
-They will provide,hot chocolate,tea,donuts etc to keep us warm.
-At the end,there is a photo taken of everyone who attends the event and it is posted on
social media,and hopefully Toys For Tots website!
Labeling and Stuffing Envelopes Service Project For FOLMADS,December 9th 12:00 pm –
3:00pm at C&W
-Duncan will send out an email with the form for a rough attendance list
-This event is where we put labels on the envelopes for FOLMADS
-There will be food brought at the end of the event
-Bring a friend to the event that needs community services hours or just wants to
participate
TOMS TIME
-Tom talks about an upcoming event which is a movie night on Dec 8th;come in pjs,
cookies,etc.
-He also speaks about more middle school trips
-December 1st where he is taking the middle schoolers to Boda Borg.If you are
interested please reach out to Tom.Community Service hours are available,and if you
are interested in employment working for the Community Center that is an option,they
are hiring.
-More event information from the community center to come in upcoming meetings
-He also described he wants to include information from our minutes in his newsletter
Closing Comments
-Doug Lucente sent everyone an email about the Town of Lexington hosting a workshop
about the future of Lexington Center.
-The meeting is Friday,November 17,2023 from 6pm-9pm
-Kristina and Shannon designed t-shirts and sweatshirts (gray and navy blue)that were
handed out to everyone at the end of the meeting.
Our next meeting is Thursday,December 14th at 7:00 pm at the LHS Library Media Center.
