HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-06-15-EDAC-min Town of Lexington Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) Minutes of Meeting June 15, 2016 A meeting of the EDAC was held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 8:07 a.m. in the Parker Room of the Town Office Building at 1625 Mass Ave. Members Present: John McWeeney, David Pronchick, Rick DeAngelis, Kevin McGuire Narain Bhatia, , Sig Tullmann Staff Present: Melisa Tintocalis, Megan Zammuto Guests Present: Joseph Trani, Erik Rhodin, John Farrington Members Absent: Lelani Foster, Bob Richards, Tom Dusel, George Burnell, Larry Smith Approval of Minutes: th The committee members approved the minutes of the EDAC meeting on May 18. The vote to approve the minutes was unanimous. Visitors Center Discussion: The committee discussed the Town of Lexington Visitors’ Center. Members asked what role the EDAC has in advocating for a renovation or a new facility. The question was raised if a new Visitors Center will improve the center, and act as a springboard for new development. Committee members discussed their concerns regarding the price tag for a new facility and the many other capital demands that face the town. Belmont Country Club: There is no update from the ED Department at this time. The committee discussed possibilities for the site including promoting commercial uses. Ideally the project would create the most revenue with the least amount of disturbance to the town. 1775 Massachusetts Avenue Discussion: Joseph Trani, Erik Rhodin and John Farrington presented their proposal to the EDAC about a project at 1775 Massachusetts Avenue. The project would include 16 units, a second story addition and first floor retail changes. The group would be looking for ZBA approval for height. Parking would include 24 spaces for residential units, as well as a mechanical robotic garage which would total 38 parking spaces. The committee was encouraged by the proposed parking innovation. A motion was made by Rick DeAngelis to support the concept plan for the 1775 Massachusetts Avenue project. The motion was seconded by David Pronchick and accepted unanimously. Brookhaven PILOT Update: Brookhaven is currently seeking an IRS and DOR determination on tax liability. The committee discussed how to handle PILOT agreements in the future. Other Business: Brammer Bio is coming to Lexington from Florida. They hope to increase their employees from 15 to 200 by the second year.
