1.Everyone introduced themselves to the Commission and CORI forms were collected. We
discussed the purpose and goals of LYC as well as the importance of showing up to
meetings and events. We also talked about the importance of communication and how
members should contact their team leader, Courtney Walsh or Avery Gehring, if they
cannot attend a meeting or event.
2.Candy Bags and envelopes were distributed for the Food Pantry fundraiser. There are 40
pieces of candy to be sold for $1 each by the next meeting (October 13th), so that we can
make the donation as soon as we can.
3.We took sweatshirt sizes as well as discussed t-shirt designs for the annual LYC t-shirts.
Members were asked to bring t-shirt design ideas to the next meeting, we will present the
ideas and vote on a final design. Costs for both the t-shirt and sweatshirt will be
communicated by email or at the next meeting.
Wednesday
4.Our First event will be the LYC island fall planting and cleanup on
September 21st at 5:30pm
with a rain date of September 28th. The island is located
between the football field and the playground, Karen will have all the supplies needed
and Shannon will bring pizza and water. The people who’ve signed up to attend are Will,
Peter, Jack, Courtney, Avery, Tommy, Meghan, Venuri, Nick, Emma, Rishi, and Millie.
We would like the people who have said maybe (Annie, Joe, Hadar, Jimmy, Noah,
Ishaan, Nachi, Lucas, Bess, Mike, Anthony, and Charles) to let their team leader know if
they are coming or not as soon as possible.
Monday
5.Our second event will be hanging balloons for the center trick or treating on
October 31st at 11:30am
, we will meet in the quad and walk to the center to hang the
balloons then eat lunch at Brookline Bank.
6.We briefly discussed the upcoming events for November and December, e hope to raise a
few thousand dollars in holiday fundraising for children in need in Lexington.
7.We discussed potential ideas for a January event, we have the month of January open so
we’d like something to participate in to help the community. Ideas of volunteering with
Cradles to Crayons, Best Buddies, or working with the elderly were brought up. All ideas
are welcome so bring any others to the next meeting.
Respectfully submitted, Jack Mitchell - Lexington Youth Commission Secretary
