PublicComments:JulieAnnShapiroexplainedthatpubliccommentsgiveLexingtoniansanopportunity toraiseanissuetobeaddressedbytheBoardand/orbystaff.Fourissueswereraised.ThefirstbyJean LeeconcernedtheMoneyMattersissuethatshehadpresentedlastmonth;sheaskedthatadecisionbe announcedwithintheweek.CharlotteRodgerssaidthatshewouldprovideanupdateontheissuein herstaffreport.ThesecondwaswhetherornotflushotswouldbeprovidedattheBrookhavenHealth Fair;CharlotteRodgerssaidthatflushotswouldbegivenprovidedthatserumwasavailable.Thethird concernedanumberofissuesthathavebeenposedoverthepastyearconcerningprinters,listening devices,newspapers,andtheavailabilityofspaceforagroupofIndianseniorsinLexington;SheilaButts explainedthatlisteningdevicesareavailableforRooms139,237,and242andtheproceduresfor obtainingthem,butthatresourceswerenotavailableforprintersbutthatcomputerworkdoneatthe CommunityCentercouldberunoffattheLibrary.ThethirdwasrealtorDougwğǤƭcommentthat seniorhousingwasrelevanttoanumberofdevelopmentprojectsintown;NancyAdlernotedthatfor severalyearstheCOAhasbroughttheissueofseniorhousingtotheattentionoftheSelectmen. ReviewofAugustMinutes:TheAugustminuteswereunanimouslyaccepted. StaffReportsandProgramUpdates: CharlotteRodgersconfirmedthatinthespringtheCOAhadagreedthattheissueofofferingsenior meals5days/weekbedeferredforayear,whilethreemealsaweekwouldcontinueunderthe Brookhavencontract.ShereportedthatstaffhadmetwithJeanLeeonseveraloccasions,thatthereis noplantoremovethecurrentvolunteerleaderoftheMoneyMattersgroup.Charlottealsonotedthe longtraditionofvolunteerleadershipinseniorprogrammingandthebestpracticesassociatedwiththis tradition,suchasanannualparticipantevaluation,staffassistancewithgroupdynamics,priorityof meetingspaceforrecognizedgroups,andstaffsupportwithtechnology.Thecurrentvolunteerled groupsattheCommunityCenterareESL,MoneyMatters,WorldAffairs,andCurrentEvents. HemaliPatelreportedthatsheisworkingwiththeIndiangrouponitsspaceissue;thatthetripto ağƩƷŷğƭVineyardhadbeenagreatsuccesswith85participants;thatshehasestablishedarelationship withtheLexingtonArtsandCraftsSocietywiththehopeofhavingafutureartprogramatthe CommunityCenter;thatupcomingspecialeventsincludeaneveningdancewithonSeptember16anda pizzalunchonSeptember22.Shehopestoofferaspeciallunchforseniorsonceamonth. KellyAxtellaskedthatCOABoardmemberschecktheircontactinformationonalistthatsheis preparingandannouncedthatanevidencebasedprogramonhealthyeatingforagingadultswillbe offeredinMandarin.ShereportedgreatsuccessoftheannualsummerbarbequewithFireDepartment personnelandAliciaGrunesdiscussingstrokerecogntionand9llcalls.HarryMackayexpressedhis appreciationatfindingmonthlycalendarsinthecenterofthecurrentSeniorServicesNewsletter. SheilaButtsreportedthattheendofsummerpartywithmorethan300participantswasagreatsuccess onahotsummernight.NancyAdlernotedthatitwasthefirsttrulyintergenerationaleventshehad enjoyedattheCommunityCenter. SeniorProgramming:Hemalisaidthatshewasestablishinganoutsideworkinggroupofinterested seniorswhichwillmeetquarterlytodevelopprogramideas.CamilleGoodwinvolunteeredtorepresent theCOAinthegroup.ThefirstmeetingwillbeonOctober13at1:302:30. BoardVacancy:JulieAnnShapiroremindedCOABoardmembersoftheCOABoardvacancyandto encourageapplications,whilenotingthattheTownManagermakestheappointment. CenterCommitteeDiscussionUpdate:NancyAdlerreportedthatthestreetscapecommitteebefore presentingitsrecommendationsonwalkwaysandlightingtotheSelectmenwillinvitecommentsonits proposedrecommendationsonSeptember13at7:30pminEstabrookHall. LiaisonReports: TransportationCommittee:NancyAdlerreportedthatthecommitteeispleasedwiththenewschedule. FCOA:SophiaHoreportedthatafundraisingsubgroupisbeingestablished(COABoardmembers suggestedthatFCOAannualappealshouldcomeoutearlierinyear)andtheOWLLprogramisdoing well. DisabilityCommission:HarryMackayencouragedBoardmemberstoattendtheSeptember13meeting. HumanServices,Recreation,HousingAuthoritycommitteeshaveyettomeetinSeptember. TrashandRecyclingTaskForce:GerryHowellhasbeenappointedtotheTaskForceanditwas recommendedthatheactastheCOAliaisonduringthelifeoftheTaskForce. TheissueofwhichselectmanisthecurrentliaisontotheCOABoardwasraised.CharlotteRodgers recommendedthatthecochairscontacttheTownağƓğŭĻƩƭofficetoseeifadecisionhasbeenmade. Announcements CharlotteRodgersannouncedthatDr.KevinHillofMcLeanHospitalwillpresentatalkonsubstance abuseandaddictiononSeptember20intheeveninginCaryHall.Shewillbesendingoutmore informationaboutthepresentation.
