Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250)
June 14, 2023 Meeting Minutes
Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk, the Semiquincentennial Commission
(Lex250) convened in a hybrid meeting in the Parker Room at the Town Office Building and via
Zoom video conference on Wednesday, June 14 at 4:31 pm by Ms. Barry as allowed by
legislation (S.2475) extending the suspension of certain provisions of the Massachusetts Open
Meeting Law.
Present in person:
Suzie Barry, Select Board Member, Chair
Jillian Tung, Music & Arts Representative, Clerk
Julie O’Leary, Civic Representative
Steve Conners, Reenactment Community Representative
Noah Michelson, Community Representative
Barry Cunha, Business Representative
Present remotely:
Cerise Jalelian, Town Celebrations Committee Representative
Mona Roy, Community Representative, Vice Chair
● The meeting was called to order at 4:31 pm by Ms. Barry
● Approval of June 7 minutes
○ A motion to approve the minutes of the June 7, 2023 meeting was made by Ms.
Barry and approved by roll call vote
● Community Engagement update
○ Jeff Leonard confirmed that the Lexington Bicentennial Band will perform on
Saturday, April 19, at Lexington High School.
○ LBBB will perform together with the Concord Band. The combined band will
present one concert in Lexington and one in Concord.
● Publicity update
○ Dr. Tung will update the flyer and send a pdf to the publicity team for printing
○ Lex 250 buttons and stickers for distribution to the public will be ordered.
● ARPA funding update
○ Group discussed memo sent by Town Manager Jim Malloy regarding use of
ARPA funds
○ ARPA money could be used for:
■ infrastructure
■ DPW needs
■ Staffing (hire consultant or short term contract, or overtime)
■ Lex 250 events
● Intermunicipal agreement update
○ Battle Road events: Intermunicipal agreement could cover marketing and
planning
○ Will know more about the IMA after a meeting next week
■ Would need to decide which communities would be the point of contact
for which things
■ Would hire a crisis management consultant
● Tag line
○ Group discussed adopting a tag line for publicity and marketing
○ Group members suggested several different options, and several choices were
discussed
○ Ms. Barry made a motion to adopt “Spirit of ‘75”. Motion passed.
● Tent
○ Mr. Michelson made a motion to use funds to purchase a tent for community
outreach purposes for $945.
● Patriots Day Weekend schedule
○ We will be on the Select Board schedule to present a proposed schedule in the
coming weeks
○ Ms. Barry suggested a possibility of a lighted drone show or fireworks
○ Ms. O’Leary asked whether the reenactors would be willing to do a Q&A with the
public on Monday of Patriots’ Day (PD) Weekend
○ Dr. Cunha indicated that the Historical Society may want to organize a tent for a
living history on Monday of PD Weekend
○ Dr. Cunha indicated that with this schedule, the reenactors will not be marching
in the parade
○ Group discussed different possibilities for scheduling reenactment events and the
parade
○ The group also discussed having a gala on a weekend before PD Weekend rather
than
○ Motion was made by Ms. Jalelian to present the proposed schedule to the Select
Board. The motion passed unanimously.
○ Adjourned 6:00 pm
● Adjourn
○ A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 6:32 pm and approved by roll call
vote
