HomeMy WebLinkAboutSewer Advisory Committee Report, 1980-1981 fvPdd Fd ? 1939 \%Ir Report to the Selectmen Sewer Advisory Committee, 1980-81 The Sewer Advisory Committee has reviewed the streets proposed for sewer construction in fiscal year 1983, attended the administrative review of pro- posed sewers, and attended the Selectmen's hearing at which the sewer proposal was presented. Our report consists of comments on each of the streets under consideration, arranged in a p riority list in case proposition 2i makes it necessary to postpone some of the sewer construction. First Priority: Wood Streets Conestoga Road Section. This section of Wood St. should be built now. There is a health problem, and most of the residents are very anxious to have the sewer. Harbell St. There are multiple problems with septic systems on this street, and the residents want it. There is a drainage problem in the area of the proposed easement, and the solution to the drainage problem should be coordin- ated with the severer. Second Priority: Wood Street, Bates Road Section. At least one resident has an imnediate problem, and others will need the sewer eventually. Flake, Rd. The one family which would be served by this sewer wants it very much, and the Health Dept. says there is a health hazard. We wish there were a less expensive way to sewer this one house. Grant Place. These houses are on a hillside with small lots, and there is a health problem. A sewer will be needed here, although siting it may be a problem, as the road does not sit on the town right-of-way. Third Priority. There are no immediate problems on these streets, but sewers will be needed eventually. i Bellflower St. Only one resident would be served by this sewer, and he is not sure he wants it. We feel he will need it eventually. Balfour St. None of the residents have shown any interest in the sewer, but the systems are old and cantt last forever. It would probably be more economical th build this s ewer at the same time as the one in nearby Harbell St. Jean Rd. Although the Health Dept. mentioned a possibly failing system, none of the residents contacted knew of any problems, nor were any of them particularly anxious for a sewer. Although the lots are fairly large, a sewer will probably have to be built in time. Not Recommended: Mood Street, Hartwell Ave. Section. The residents do not want a sewer, and I since much ofd the land is due to be developed, we suggest that the town wait and let the developer put in the sewer. (7 Sewer Advisory Committee 2 Westview St. Although two residents answered in favor of the sewer on the questionnaire, none showed up at the hearings. The proposed sewer is very long for so few residents and we wonder if there are other alternatives. Earl St. This sfwer is too expensive, and none of the residents seem interested. Whittier fid. Although we think a sewer will be needed on this street eventually, we do not recommend it, as the residents are vigorously opposed. Redcoat Lane. A pumping station, which requires a lifetime of daily inspections by two men, is too expensive. We think the Engineering Department can help the residents come up with private alternatives.
