Lexington Public Schools
School Committee Meeting — November 15, 2005
Lexington High School, 7:30 p.m.
Present for the school committee: Olga Guttag, Tom Griffiths, Tom Diaz, Scott Burson,
Helen Cohen, Chairman, and Toni Maeck, Student Representative
Also present: Dr. Paul Ash, Superintendent of Schools
Superintendent’s Report:
Dr. Ash recognized two Lexington High School Teachers, Mr. Albert Roos and
Ms. Adrianne Billingham, for honors they recently received. Mr. Roos, a mathematics
teacher at Lexington High School, was recognized for being selected as a winner of the
2005 Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished High School Mathematics Teaching.
Ms. Billingham, a LHS Social Studies teacher, was chosen to be a presenter at an
international conference at Harvard, entitled Pursuing Human Dignity: The Legacies of
Nuremberg for International Law, Human Rights and Education.
Dr. Ash also thanked the School Committee, Board of Selectmen, Appropriations
Committee, and Town Meeting for unanimously supporting the FY’05 and FY’06 budget
requests.
Discussion Items:
Dr. Ash announced to the School Committee that the report on Summer Workshops
would be postponed until a future meeting.
Dr. Sarasin presented the report on 2005-2006 professional development. She
highlighted the importance of nurturing professional learning communities and noted
three major district initiatives: Action Research, K-5 Scott Foresman Literacy workshops,
and the High School’s work to prepare a mission statement.
Mr. Burson presented the first draft of the revised field trip policy.
Action Items:
A motion was made to approve the 2005-2006 School Committee Goals.

A motion was made to approve budget transfers to balance the FY’06 budget.
(Diaz – Guttag; 5-0)
A motion was made to approve the minutes as amended from the November 7, 2005,
School Committee Meeting. (Griffiths – Diaz; 5-0)
Mr. Burson moved and Mr. Griffiths seconded a motion to go into Executive Session at
10:17 p.m. Ms. Guttag, Yes; Mr. Diaz, Yes; Ms. Cohen, Yes; Mr. Burson, Yes;
Mr. Griffiths, Yes.
