Foley, Executive Director March 30, 2016 Lexington Board of Selectmen 2„d Floor, Town Office Building 1625 Massachusetts Avenue Lexington MA 02420 RE: Lexington Housing Authority Board Vacancy Dear Board of Selectmen, Effective March 23, 2016, Leo McSweeney resigned from the Lexington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Per MGL 41, Section 11, we are required to notify you in writing of the resignation. I emailed his resignation to Lynne Pease, Selectmen Clerk and Nathalie Rice, Town Clerk on March 28, 2016, but this letter may serve as a more formal notice. The Lexington Housing Authority Board met on March 30, 2016 in a Special Public Meeting to discuss candidates that would be appropriate to fill the vacancy left by Mr. McSweeney. In a unanimous vote, all members agreed to nominate Mr. Richard Perry of 40 Clarke Street, Lexington MA 02421. Mr. Perry has been a Lexington resident for many years and has raised his family here. He is a local builder who will bring immense expertise, specifically related to construction that we do not otherwise have. He has a great understanding of the needs of the community as well as a compassionate outlook towards affordable housing. We believe Mr. Perry would be a wonderful addition and complement to the Lexington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. The next step in the process is to meet together for a roll call vote to approve this nomination. That meeting has to be advertised for one week. We would like to expedite this Equal Employment Opportunity-Affirmative Action Employer a process as much as possible so Mr. Perry can join the Board and we can utilize his knowledge. Additionally, we have our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 and we would love to have him be present as a full Board member. It is our understanding that your Board meets prior to Town Meeting. Looking at the calendar, it appears that the soonest we could possibly get on your agenda would be Monday, April 11, 2016. We understand that this is a busy season for you, and we appreciate your willingness to fit us in wherever you can. Please let me know if that date works for you, and if not please suggest any other date. As I said, we have our Annual Meeting on April 13 at 5pm, so would be unable to meet that night. Also please let me know if you require any further information regarding Mr. Perry. We look forward to working with you together on this matter and all future affordable housing needs for the Town of Lexington. Sincerely, Caileen B. For the past four years, the Board of Selectmen and engineering staff have been preparing plans for a variety of safety and other improvements for Lexington Center/Massachusetts Avenue, from Woburn Street to Harrington Road. The Selectmen now need your input to finalize one aspect of these plans. As part of this project, the Selectmen have asked the Department of Public Works to implement three trial traffic changes and evaluate these changes prior to making a final determination of the traffic plan. This trial program is expected to take place from July through October 2016. These changes are: • Eliminate the west bound right turn lane leading to Edison Way, in front of the Boston Edison building; • Eliminate the east bound right turn lane leading to Waltham Street, in front of Rancatore's Ice Cream; and • Turn Harrington Road into one-way south bound, from Bedford Street to Massachusetts Avenue. Consider a full closure of Harrington Road after evaluating the one-way closure. This public meeting will be on Thursday, April 7 from 7-8:30 p.m., in the Diamond Middle School Auditorium. The preliminary implementation plan for this trial program will be presented. Your suggestions and comments will help us finalize this trial program. You can also participate in this implementation plan in other ways: • Go to the Town's website to learn more details regarding the project http://www.lexin omna.gov/center-streetscape-and-battle- rg een-projects • Use this email address, selectmenglexingtonma.Rov to send your suggestions. Written comments will be accepted until April 28. • Attend a Board of Selectmen meeting and provide your comments during the Public Comment period, which happens at the beginning of each Selectmen's meeting. Comments at Selectmen's meetings will be accepted until May 2. The Selectmen are expected to approve the final trial program plan at their meeting on May 9. As you may recall, last year we had the first ever, "A Revolutionary Walk with History." This idea was designed to create an event that would promote the Economic Development Department, Lexington Historical Society, The Lexington Minute Men Company and His Majesty's 10th Regiment of Foot in America, Inc. The Lexington Chamber of Commerce and Brookline Bank will sponsor a walk for families and residents on Saturday, June 25, 2016, which will include members of both the Lexington Minute Men(dressed in their colonial kit) and His Majesty's 10th This event would start at 10:00am at Depot Square, and participants will register at a Lexington Chamber of Commerce Table and can purchase a child size Tricorn Hat, thereby choosing either the Brits side (then receiving a red ribbon on their hat), or the LexMM side, (receiving a blue ribbon on their hat). We would all then march/walk with drums and fife (on sidewalks)to the Hancock-Clarke House. While there, we would receive a free, first floor walk through "quick" tour. While some are touring, others will wait, talking to LexMM and Brits, looking at muskets, asking questions etc. Then we would all walk onto the Buckman Tavern, and have a "quick" walk through first floor and tour. Then back to the Center and Depot Square, stopping there and allowing people to get lunch, check out the Shops on the sidewalks, etc. Also, during this time at Depot Square, the Brits. and LexMM can perform musket firings, demonstrations, play music, etc. Sue Bennett suggested that we could do a Brit/LexMM tug of war with the kids per their hat ribbon color choice. On behalf of the Lexington Chamber, Brookline Bank and the Businesses in the Center, I request before the Selectmen a "blanket one-day permit" allowing businesses to display their goods on the sidewalks for the day. Once this is allowed by your Board, we will notify the local businesses of this event as well as promotion to our Town residents and the general public. I am interested in any farther ideas, comments, and/or issues you may have or wish to raise so we can successfully all enjoy the day. Again, I thank you for your support and I look forward to working together to make this event happen. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Your time in positions of leadership within Troop 119, and the successful completion of your Eagle project, speaks to your dedication. Being an Eagle is so much more than just another rank.
