Agenda Topics Discussed
1. Organizational Items
Mrs. Mead updated the Council on the School Committee's
recent meeting about student assignment.
Mrs. Mead updated the Council on the leadership transition. The
new principal, Ms. Bonarrigo, will be working with staff to hire
an assistant principal. Mrs. Mead is screening potential new
teachers and will send a "first cut" of teacher candidates for Ms.
Bonarrigo's review. Ms. Bonarrigo will visit Harrington on May 31
and again on kindergarten visit day (June 9). She might also
attend the School Council meeting on June 7 (but that visit is not
yet confirmed).
2. Survey Results
The Council reviewed and discussed the open -ended comments
from the student survey. The Council appointed a subcommittee
(M. Dardeno, M. Potter, E. Class, and R. Londhe) to draft
presentations about the survey results for faculty and parents.
Mrs. Mead will select a time to present the survey results to
faculty (probably June 6). She will also try to find a Let's Chat
date after June 6 for sharing the survey results with parents. A
parent representative also suggested sharing survey responses
involving food with Whitsons.

3. Current Anti - Bullying
Response and Curriculum
Faculty representatives invited Harrington teachers to share
their suggestions and curriculum ideas regarding
social /emotional learning, kindness, anti - bullying, etc. Responses
were limited, but some approaches to those issues currently
being used at Harrington include greetings at morning meetings;
"bucket- filling" discussions (all classrooms have a book on this
topic); read -aloud tie -ins; "catch you being good jars ";
HAWKS /Kindness sightings (school- wide); and lessons from the
school counselor. Suggestions included additional lessons about
understanding differences, and on ways to respond to teasing,
conflicts, and bullying. Some older children seem less excited
about the "HAWKS" program; maybe that program could evolve
for the upper grades?
4. School Improvement Plan
Draft Input and Process
The Council appointed a subcommittee (E. Mead, M. Yang, S.
Dever, J. Kelley, and J. Roney) to start work on drafting the
School Improvement Plan.
5. Plan for May 20 Let's Chat
The Council would like to move the May 20 Let's Chat until after
June 6. Mrs. Mead will investigate possible new dates.
