Present: Julie Ann Shapiro, Ellen Cameron, John Zhao, Sudhir Jain, Sandra
Shaw, Julie Barker, Jyotsna Kakullavarapu, Mark Sandeen
Staff: Melissa Interess, Michelle Kelleher, Christine Dean, Kelsey Rollins
Julie-Ann called the meeting to order 12:02pm, took attendance
Public Co0mments: A Sarela Bliman-Cohen attending and interested in
possibly joining the board.
New Business: Julie-Ann updated that we have a proposed new board
member- waiting for Select Board approval the end of this month.
Looking for a new secretary for the COA board.
Liaison opening for Disability Committee.
Approval of May 2023 minutes.
Review/Approve Select Board Submission- Senior Parking Program
Review the Memorandum. Had a discussion about Lexington Center
Committees proposal changes to the parking program.
Motion to approve our submitted memo with attachments subject to minor
edits and the addition of brief response to the Center Committee proposed
changes.
• Presentation Tree Statement- Charlie Wyman . Charlie represents a group
of 8 from the Tree Statement Group. He explained the importance of trees
in Lexington in regard to Climate Change. Importance to increasing the
Tree Canopy in Lexington and changes to the current By Laws and
education and They want to help minimize the localized impacts of global
climate change. Sandra suggested the COA board vote and support the tree
statement group's letter to the Select Board. John commented we need
the board members who joined the meeting remotely to review the letter
first. We discussed having the item on the August board meeting We will
put this on our next agenda to vote. More information: Lexington tree

Staff Reports:
Christine Dean: Hardcourt resurface. Will start June19th through
November. Ferris Basketball Courts, 10 Gallagher tennis courts, and 4
pickleball courts. 60% courts will be availability. Recreation received
funding from a Dana Home Grant for Forever Fit. Summer with Dana Home
funding: will have in July and August, 2 days where Seniors can learn how to
use the Outdoor Equipment.
Kelsey Rollins: May focused on Mental Health. Mental Health and
Brain Health and how to decrease Dementia. Alzheimer awareness month,
with MIND diet, nutritional and cooking class. Next trip to Castle Island.
Brunch had 70 people. Lunch from Boston Kabobs June 15th 70 people
signed up.
Liaison Reports:
Minuteman Senior Services Sudhir Jain- Had a table in Discovery Day. May
is Fundraising Month- May 20-29th- raised $16,000. Minuteman by your
side program has been discontinued. Piloting in Burlington a vegetarian
Indian Meal for 4 months. June 15th- Abuse Elder Day. June 14th Volunteer
recognition Day at Verill Farm.
Transportation Sudhir Jain getting requests for route diversions. Proposed
$20 Lexpress pass has been approved.
FCOA Sudhir Jain no update since our joint meeting.
Commission on Disability Mark Sandeen Joint meeting with Bicycle
Advisory Committee. Working on Bicycle/pedestrian, disability plan. The
town bike committee was working on bike safety with the Disability
Committee. The chair of the Disability Committee suggested having COA
participate in the discussion.
Recreation Committee Julie-Ann Shapiro no update
Lexington Housing Authority Sue Rockwell via email, Vinebrook - Buildings
12 and 11 were vacated and work anticipated to proceed on
both. However, it was discovered that Building 11's plumbing is attached to
Building 10's so work is only proceeding on Building 12 - then Building 10
residents will be moving into Building 12 and work will proceed on Buildings
11 and 10. There were nine change orders presented by the contractor. SO
FAR, all change orders are covered by the contingencies amount.

Housing Partnership John Zhao . Housing Partnership wants to look into
Land acquisition policy
