After-Action Report on Day
Geetha congratulated the group and reminded everyone how much had been accomplished in a short
time.
Doug Lucente offered his comments: he felt this was one of the best parades we ever had. Everyone
was so happy; the Town was buzzing with excitement. Everyone he spoke with talked about the
event in superlative terms. There may have been some small flaws (for example, the microphone
setup at the morning ceremony needs fixing), but what showed to the outside world came across
beautifully.
Geetha asked Doug about attendance. What were his impressions? Doug felt this parade was the
biggest in the last five years: ot shoulder to shoulder but plenty of them.
All agreed that a follow-up meeting with key stakeholders should be held soon to capture feedback
while it is still fresh in minds. Geetha will work with Kathy Severance to schedule a
meeting.
Geetha then shared a PowerPoint presentation she had compiled from all the feedback sent in by
members. Feedback comments from the parade included: Less frequent meetings, early golf cart
driving instruction, need for earlier street closings, security risk of vehicles entering parade, missing
VIP bus, missing banner truck, and need for thorough review of parade application to simplify future
follow up.
Feedback on the Ceremony included the unreliable PA system, insecure podium, absence of folding
chairs, and misunderstanding re Minute Men awards. Comments on the Registration process
included lack of a waste container, need to start 1/2 hour early, need for police presence, and locating
units that never checked in.
Regarding publicity, Ashley said her combined Facebook pages drew 4000 hits. We need to develop
our Instagram outreach as it attracts more younger people. Lorain offered kudos to Sandy and her
Publicity team for a fantastic job on publicizing Day Weekend.
Membership Discussion Future Actions
The group held a frank discussion of its membership status and the need to recruit new members.
New member Yifang Gong talked about his difficult first months on the committee as he had to
figure out for himself what to do and how to fit in. Geetha spoke of the need for a new member
orientation program, the importance of understanding what the different jobs are to be filled, helping
our new members decide how they can best contribute, and of existing members helping new
members along. All agreed this would be a priority for the coming year, with a focus on involving
younger members.
Discovery Day
Lorain will staff a TCC table on Saturday, May 28, Discovery Day and needs committee volunteers to
take shifts between 10:00 and 3:00. circulate information.
Memorial Day
Will start planning in earnest next week. Lorain will write and ask members to think about which
assignments they might want to take on.
Event Planning
The committee plans future discussions on items as: how do we make Memorial Day and Veterans
Day more relevant? Ashley suggested forming a Task Force for each event, making sure to add a new
member to each Task Force. Glen suggests we clearly identify our objective for each of these events.
Sue suggests making memorial banners of a few worthy citizens (veterans?) to attach to light poles in
Lexington Center.
Geetha will consolidate these ideas and share with everyone.
The meeting adjourned 8:40 pm.
