HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-03-16-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Virtual Meeting MINUTES March 16, 2022 Members Present: Full Members (11): Present: Steve Cole, Linda Dixon, Cerise Jalelian, Gresh Lattimore, Lorain Marquis, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski. Absent: Glen Bassett, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller. Quorum: 6 Subcommittee Members (15): Present: Sudha Balasuryan, Yifang Gong, Mary Hutton, Sue Stering. Absent: Aneesha Karody, Samita Mandelia, Wayne Miller, Ashley Rooney, Hong Xie. 6 vacancies. Guests: None. 7:02 PM: Meeting called to order by Chair, Geetha. 7:04 PM: Minutes of March 9, 2022 approved. Patrio Day Planning Sponsorships (Lorain): Have 13 in hand, which is the normal number. Have many unopened replies yet to be counted. Publicity (Sandy): - Mary reports that the Saturday, April 16, shedule at Tower Park is as follows: - 1 pm: Lex High School Bicentennial Bank to perform. (Not on patriotsday.com website.) - 2:30 pm: William Diamond Fife & Drum Corps to perform. their 20th year anniversary. Other fife and drum corps are being sought by her. An article for one of the newspapers should celebrate this occasion. - 4 pm: British Retreat Reenactment commences. - Flyers will be handed out to Wilson Farms and Eric Shoes by Ashley. Youth Parade (Steve): This 7:30 am event on April 18 has been attracting fewer and fewer crowds year by year. Astonishingly, the Ceremony on the Green following it presents the most prestegious Town awards: the White Hat and the White Cane. But there is great resistence to any change. - Geetha suggests approaching the Youth Commission, church youth groups, and other youth groups to participate to enhance attendance. This is something we should focus on next year. TCC Core Group (Geetha): - The 2:30 pm Wm Diamond concert (April 16) has been approved by the Town. - Parking at Scottish Rite site: Geetha is stilling trying to find the proper contact. - Geetha has met with Sgt Dave Bresnahan of the Police Dept. be in charge of the policing of both parades. Mary and Linda will draft an overview for him. Cerise said how important it is for the parade units to march together tightly to avoid gaps by the time they reach Lexington Center. Parade Units (Lorain): - 78 units have been confirmed. - The following units were, by motion, unanimously approved - New England Historic Military Vehicle Collectors (no tracked vehicles will be driven) - Bhakti Center of Lexington - USS CONSTITUTION Band - Lexington Historical Society - US Coast Guard Academy Band. - Units still under consideration: - Navy Band (fully booked for the moment by others) - Sustainable Lexington Committee: must contact to confirm - Norwich University Regimental Band: Sue to call - Patriot Honor Guard - Drum Band Matta - Registration for units will close next Friday, March 25. Then a formal, final list will be given to Cerise. - Later this week the responsible Subcommittee will meet to put the parade togher and present it to TCC next meeting for discussion. Lorain will email the 2019 Parade List to this group. - Parade Signs: This will be pounded into the ground Friday, April 15 by Steve and Lexington Minutemen around 4-5pm. Need 90 stout stakes. Geetha to check with DPW to see if they are still available. 3 lbs hammars are also needed. Parade Ambassadors (Linda): 25 are in hand. Other Business Day Banner, now hanging in front of Cary Hall. Geetha show a 4 minute video by LexMedia, which might be shown at the Visitor Center to entice visitors to attend the parade. Veterans Breakfast (November): St no longer wishes to host this event.
