Agenda
I. Welcome
DRAFT WIN parent survey presented by Mr. Lawrence.
o Parent suggested having either a scale for each question and /or open response box.
o Monaco asked - how well do parents understand WIN, the goals, etc? Should we ask
about communication? Should the 2nd question be - are you aware of the new WIN block
schedule this year?
o Teacher confirmed - could be an agree /disagree question but would be based on what
you are looking for.
o Parent - I'm not sure how much I've heard from the school, but I've heard a great deal
from my son. Are you aware of it and do you understand it?
o Teacher - I have a student in middle school and most of the information I've gotten
through my student. I never felt like I needed one more email.
o Turner - are you aware of WIN, what it is, and where did you get your information?
o Teacher - might be better to have a scale.
o Monaco - do you feel like you have adequate information about WIN?
o Parent - could be a scale - how familiar are you with the WIN program at Clarke? Very
familiar, some familiar, never heard of it.
o Monaco - follow up question with a list of places /events where WIN information would be
obtained.
o Monaco -. Could say - based on feedback from your student - did they want anything
else?
o Teacher - it had been suggested to have parents come in to help out?
o Monaco - perhaps later on down the road, but I'm not sure we're ready for that.
o Parent - #7 - nothing about the enrichment end. We have some parents concerned about
not being scheduled for enrichment.
o Monaco - best means would be email with link, leaving it open for a few weeks.
II. Approval of February 2016 Minutes
• Approved
III. 15 -16 SIP Updates
Monaco - shares SIP and reviews the various columns - explains that as we review she wants to
consider things we have completed and want to remove from the plan and things that we haven't
yet accomplished on which we need to continue to focus
A. Goal 1
1. For the first implementation step we will be seeking input from department heads
2. Implementation step regarding RTI - focuses a lot on WIN - explains the challenges with
RTI at the secondary level - reviews the processes that have been in place to assess the
efficacy of WIN - determination of whether WIN will continue next year may alter this goal
going forward
3. Professional learning will continue to be a focus - we are hoping to implement more
opportunities for sharing with one another - we would like to have a "mini- Lexington
learns" in our building to allow staff to present and discuss with one another, in addition -
Mrs. Monaco shared that our 7th grade teachers are participating in a lesson study model,
and that we are beginning conversations about classroom walkthroughs - in addition,
technology specialists are continuing to work with staff and teachers are continuing to
observe each other whenever possible
4. iPad program - explains that if it passes through town meeting in April we will be providing
7th graders with iPads as well - we discussed the distractibility factor and potential
methods for preventing misuse - social worker reports on the possibilities around mental
health apps such as "breathe to relax" - tech teacher discusses the app that her tech team
is creating that is targeted at helping to relieve student stress
B. Goal2
1. Pro - social behavior and resiliency - Mrs. Monaco discusses the results from the YRBS
and the sources of stress that students reported on that survey, also discussed the
homework policy which will be an ongoing discussion in the district
2. Still need to solicit feedback from social workers and counselors regarding the second and
third implementation steps - a lot of work has been done, it just needs to be articulated on
the SIP
IV. Discussion of goals for 2016 -2017 SIP
We will begin to address this at the next meeting in April.
