LHS School Site Council Meeting met on March 14, 2016 from 6:15 -7:45 PM in the Library
Media Center.
Attendance: Laura Lasa, Suzanne Lau, Katherine Manning, Sharon Kendall, Polly Kienle, Alex
McLaughlin, Nancy Shepard, Liz Curtin, Elise Rowley, Eileen Jay, Anne Redmon
Absent: Kristin Tissera, Elise Santiago, Dave Wininger, Walter Richardson,
I. The February 1 minutes were approved with no changes
II. Announcements from Council members
• Eileen Jay announced her election to the School Committee and decision to step down
from Site Council (as a community member). She departed the meeting after her
announcement.
• The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) will hold the Parent Academy 2.0
on March 19, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Lexington Community Center. The goal is
to "educate and empower parents in a changing world ".
• Jennifer Wolfrum was cited for her devotion and work on the SHAC.
• An update was provided on the preliminary course load numbers for Honors and AP
Chemistry classes in 2016 -2017. There is no decline in the number of students taking
AP Chemistry and a one - section decrease in the number of Honors sections.
• Two current parent members have terms up for re- election in the spring.
III. Review the 2015 -2016 School Improvement Plan
• Small groups identified the areas of progress for each goal.
• The committee began to discuss the areas of progress; to be continued at the April
meeting.
• At the April meeting, the group will identify areas to move to the 2016 -2017 plan
and make recommendations for additional items.
V. Evaluating Competitive School Culture, Part II
• Individual committee members recorded initial thoughts on the positive and
unhealthy aspects of a competitive school culture on parents and educators
• The committee will review and discuss the ideas at the April meeting
