Murphy (SW) gave update - updated district wide plan to address and stay consistent.
Parent - are the guidelines available for us to review?
Murphy - yes, IÈll find out where it is available
Parent - what about a proactive plan?
Murphy/Wettstone discussed current initiatives in the school to address
Bullying - continued with the RachelÈs Challenge program, which has now
morphed into a program owned/created by Clarke. The counseling
department put on a Renegade Challenge assembly, challenging students
to go against the norm, stand up for each other and make positive choices.
The plan is to continue with this Clarke Renegade theme, hosting an
Appreciation of Everyone week.
Suicide - confirmed prevalence at the middle school level and supports
available to students in need.
Stress related to homework - confirmed stress related to homework, how
the WIN block is working towards reducing levels, which led into a
discussion on WIN and the corresponding survey results. Also discussed
open conversations with staff around the importance of homework, how
different students approach/value homework, and the negative effects of
ÅzerosÆ in the gradebook.
IV. Student WIN Survey
Students reported WIN as a positive - 82% state that WIN is helping them to feel less stressed.
6th grade wanted more time to run/play, while 8th grade wanted time to complete homework
and/or meet with friends.
Most stress was related to homework and trying to make up missed work/assessments, which
matched the decisions for the students, using WIN to complete homework and/or make up
missed work or assessments (88+%).
95% of the students stated that they wanted WIN again next year, with 85% stating they wanted
more WIN time next year.
Parents confirmed survey results, stating that more homework was being done in school and they
were seeing less stress at home.
Teacher confirmed better access to students on the team - more effective at obtaining students
during the school day, providing help and/or giving them time to make up missed assessments.
V. Teacher WIN Survey
Reported better access to students during the day - greater opportunity to have students make up
work and get extra help.
Reported having busy schedules on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - back to back classes
and having less time to prepare.
Will be voting at the end of the school year to continue.
