Amy Sellinger, Parent, Andrew Boni, Parent Agenda I. Welcome II. Approval of January 2016 Minutes Reviewed and approved III. YRBS Results Presented to SC Murphy (SW) gave update - updated district wide plan to address and stay consistent. Parent - are the guidelines available for us to review? Murphy - yes, IÈll find out where it is available Parent - what about a proactive plan? Murphy/Wettstone discussed current initiatives in the school to address Bullying - continued with the RachelÈs Challenge program, which has now morphed into a program owned/created by Clarke. The counseling department put on a Renegade Challenge assembly, challenging students to go against the norm, stand up for each other and make positive choices. The plan is to continue with this Clarke Renegade theme, hosting an Appreciation of Everyone week. Suicide - confirmed prevalence at the middle school level and supports available to students in need. Stress related to homework - confirmed stress related to homework, how the WIN block is working towards reducing levels, which led into a discussion on WIN and the corresponding survey results. Also discussed open conversations with staff around the importance of homework, how different students approach/value homework, and the negative effects of ÅzerosÆ in the gradebook. IV. Student WIN Survey Students reported WIN as a positive - 82% state that WIN is helping them to feel less stressed. 6th grade wanted more time to run/play, while 8th grade wanted time to complete homework and/or meet with friends. Most stress was related to homework and trying to make up missed work/assessments, which matched the decisions for the students, using WIN to complete homework and/or make up missed work or assessments (88+%). 95% of the students stated that they wanted WIN again next year, with 85% stating they wanted more WIN time next year. Parents confirmed survey results, stating that more homework was being done in school and they were seeing less stress at home. Teacher confirmed better access to students on the team - more effective at obtaining students during the school day, providing help and/or giving them time to make up missed assessments. V. Teacher WIN Survey Reported better access to students during the day - greater opportunity to have students make up work and get extra help. Reported having busy schedules on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - back to back classes and having less time to prepare. Will be voting at the end of the school year to continue.
