Members Present: , Bruce Creager, John Frey, Bahig Kaldas, Alenka SlezakCaroline Fitzgerald, Steve Vincent, Tim Lee (Chair) Members Absent: Brigitte Steines, Richard Friedson Approvals : Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. The meeting reviewed and acted on the following item: 1. Sign design for Cary Hall – Pat Goddard, Director of Public Facilities , Colin Smith - Colin Smith Architecture The DAC reviewed the proposed new sign at our meeting on January 6, 2016 and had the following comments and recommendations. The applicant presented the proposed sign for in front of Cary Hall along the sidewalk and Massachusetts Avenue. The goal is to install a permanent structure for town and Cary Hall related events. The DAC had previously recommended that banners be installed on the light poles instead of a new structure. This turns out to be impractical and costly. Two alternatives were presented to the DAC. The DAC preferred Sign A – Option 2 with masonry columns instead of the more ornate, lighter looking metal option. The DAC did have a few recommendations on modifying the design as presented. a. Remove the roof, the DAC was not unanimous on this recommendation b. Beef up the wall between the brick piers c. Scale down the size of the piers, height and width d. Add up-lighting to base of announcement board frame e. Modify pier cap profile and peak f. Match material for pier base to materials used on Cary Hall, granite preferred g. Paving to be brick around the sign. If any further changes are made to the project scope or design as presented at any time prior to final installation the DAC asks that the applicant notify the DAC for review and approval prior to implementation. Other Business : None Respectfully submitted Timothy Lee Cc: Board of Selectmen
