HomeMy WebLinkAboutCable TV and Communications Advisory Committee minutes 01-29-1988.pdf LEXINGTON: CABLE TV AND COMMUNICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE Lexington, Massachusetts MEETING OF THE COMMITEE, 29 JANUARY 1988 The chairman was unable to attend but appointed Theodore Mairson to be acting chairman . The meeting was called to order at 3: 22 PM. Present were Julian Bussgang, Stella Liu, Theodore Mairson, Leo McSweeney, William Spencer, Martha Stanton, and John Ward. McSweeney presented the following papers: cover letter from Richard J . White letter dated 1 /29/88, Richard W. Chandler to Richard White letter dated 12/21/87, Sheila Mahoney to Richard White letter undated, Richard J. White to Anthony F. Peduto memorandum dated 1/28/88, Richard J . White to Leo McSweeney These have been placed on file. Stanton commented that she is now pleased with prompt responses by Adams-Russell . McSweeney agreed to distribute copies of the 1980 and 1974 Selectmen' s CATV reports to members of the committee. The matter of the Selectmen' s charge to the committee was discussed. Bussgang said that emphasis should be placed on reviewing performance by Adams-Russell and advising the Selectmen. Mairson distributed a note dated 1/29/88 "RE: CHARGE TO CATV COMMITTEE" , a copy of which has been placed on file. Spencer suggested the following emphasis: hold a public hearing in the fall prepare a report to the Selectmen Publish the report in the Town' s annual report Mairson suggested that the scope of subject matter was technology, not just CATV and that this was the significance of COMMUNICATIONS in the committee' s title. McSweeney confirmed that this had been the Selectmen' s intention. ' ~ ` Complaint procedures were discussed. It was agreed that McSweeney should ask the Town Manager to mail a questionnaire to each one who submits a written or telephone complaint to Town Hall . Copies of the response will be forwarded to Adams-Russell . Preliminary discussion of public access and local origination was begun, but no conclusions were reached. Liu pointed out that there were no A- or B-channels available for library access. This will be taken up with Adams-Russell . . It was voted unanimously that the committee will meet on the fourth Friday of each month at 3: 30 PM. The next meeting will be on Friday, 26 February 1988 at 3: 30 PM.
