NEW BUSINESS
A. To neetiin Articles Diiscussion
The School Committee discussed Article 34 - Amend Zoning Bylaw and Map - Multi -Family
Zoning Housing for Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Communities.
Ms. Sawhney stated that if a vote was needed to be taken by the School Committee then she
would abstain from making a vote until she hears the discussions at Town Meeting.
Ms. Cuthbertson explained that the School Committee does not usually take a position on
zoning articles unless they directly affect schools but she does see the good in affordable
housing for many reasons.
Ms. Jay agrees. She does not think the School Committee should be taking a position on Article
34. A question that potentially could be asked during Town Meeting, particularly for the people
who are not supportive of the amendment, is: If certain zones end up having more multi -family

housing, is that going to then affect particular schools and have a greater impact on them?
Ms. Cuthbertson explained that is why we have the flexible assignment policy in place should
we need it. Redistricting could also be used as a solution as well.
Ms. Kathleen stated that we are talking years from now for something being possibly built and a
redistricting map only works for so long so by then, we possibly might need to redistrict
a nyways.
ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Sawhney made a motion to adjourn at 5:15 PM, Mr. Freeman seconded. Ms.
Cuthbertson took a roll call vote, passed 5-0.
