21 Day Equity Challenge Planning for the
Community
●Harrington Site Council 21 Day Equity
Challenge Planning Doc

●Site Council to help introduce the equity
challenge to Harrington families during a
community meet up
●PTA:Jackie connected with PTA and they will
sponsor refreshments at a parent event
●Timeframe:Members discussed dates to
launch the 21 day challenge with a start date
after April Break (Wed or Thurs)
○Let’s Chat night
○Discussion on having it in the evening
so more parents could attend.Time
planned 7-8:30 pm.
○Liz noted the end dates for the 21 day
challenge.Decision reached to count
weekends as part of the 21 days.
●Involvement:Discussed the benefits of a
survey to see who wished to participate
○Julie noted any type of involvement is
great
○Jane agreed that a survey didn’t mean
that it was an RSVP;no one would hold
anyone accountable for whether they
attended the evening or not
○Wei noted she is happy to translate any
documents into Chinese to help bring
our community together for this
○Brief discussion about whether to offer
zoom or not;consensus that zoom is a
very different feel.And the hope is to
bring parents into a comfortable
setting to share thoughts.
●Jackie discussed plans to invite parents with a
save the date.
●Brief video to help introduce this to the
Harrington community
○Site Council member to participate in
video
○Rory connected with LPS equity team;
Johnny Cole excited to hear that this is
going forward.
○Rory and Jackie to share history of the
making of the website and selection of
videos and to share Harrington’s
involvement to date
○Goal is to help parents hear from other
parents/stakeholders about this
community activity
●Messaging:Melissa asked what the ask and
message to the community would be
○Ming emphasized that parents can
participate and help show and share
perspectives.
○Julie talked about parents and teachers
working together as important to the
process
○Wei brought up other parent’s
concerns re:academics and spoke to
how we can best bring people together
by sharing our perspectives on these
videos
○Jane noted that some may not see this
as a high priority and spoke to how a
safe feel at school can help all students
●Followup:Jackie notes that she is thinking of a
Principal Friday where families can connect on
this challenge with staff/teachers (no
students)who also completed it.
