Reports /Updates:
• Bob has been investigating the possibility of re- routing the B route to go through the Munroe
Cemetery. This would simplify the access to the Bikeway by eliminating some street cross-
ings. The best location for trail construction appears to be at the east end of the cemetery,
but that will require some negotiation with a private landowner. The bank along the Bikeway
is less steep there than further west.
• Citizens for Lexington Conservation will sponsor a Route E walk in the spring. Bob, Peggy,
and Eileen will collaborate on that.
• An abutter of the Route E segment on Garfield Rd would like an indemnification letter from
the Town since that segment of the road is Unaccepted (the Town does not own it) and he is
concerned about the possibility of lawsuit should someone get injured while using the
ACROSS route. Michelle Ciccolo, the GCC Board of Selectmen liaison, and Carl Valente,
Town Manager, are working on how to handle this.
• Susan went to a meeting of the Dana Home Foundation (at the suggestion of Dave Wil-
liams). The Foundation gives grants for programs designed to aid senior citizens in Lexing-
ton. It might be a good place to apply for funds to develop a trail from the Community Center
to Upper Vine Brook,or toward Youville Place. The Town is considering purchase of the Ar-
menian Sisters Academy building in the same area. This will affect what routes might be de-
veloped in that area.
Ongoing Business:
• Brochure revisions, reformatting, and reprinting, including hiring Laurel Smith for design
work, can be funded through our existing CPA funds. A working group including Mike and
Susan will get started with a goal of finishing by March in order to have new maps printed by
Patriots' Day. We will print 12,000 brochures. Susan will work on getting high school "interns"
for summer map distribution to the map holders around town. She will also meet with David
Neal about updating the ACROSS app.
• Peggy and Keith will be meeting with the Aloft and Element hotels about accessing Route F
from there, and with Nancy Nelson of the National Park Service about our connection to the
Minute Man National Historical Park. We need federal permission to mark the trail over Fiske
Hill.
• 2016 route development - Youville Place & Nat'l Park already mentioned. Currently labelled
#7 through Shaker Glen is a route that requires no special permissions. Please walk it - be-
fore Feb 29 meeting, if possible. The connection to Lot 1 from Brookhaven is another possi-
bility, though it requires Division of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) permission.
• For Wayfinding signs, we ought to place an order by June 1 to pay with FY16 funds (the
deadline is June 30). Mike had samples of the proposed Whipple Hill signs. There was dis-
cussion about installing maps with "You Are Here" markers, instead or in addition to the way
finding signs. Still no definite consensus on what information to include: direction? distance?
More to think about for next meeting.
