Attendance: Subcommittee members Judy Crocker Chair, Margaret Coppe, Superintendent Dr. Czajkowski,
Director of Special Education Ellen Sugita
Ms. Crocker called the meeting to order at 10:35 AM.
Discussion of policy on Physical Restraint of Students (JKAA)
• New state regulations went into effect January 1, 2016. The Massachusetts Association of School
Committees (MASC) provided a version of the policy, which was subsequently reviewed by
school counsel, Colby Brunt. New definitions of mechanical, chemical, and seclusion restraints
were reviewed. The School Committee needs to be aware that this policy needs annual review as
the name of the compliance officer must be included in the policy.
• Ms. Sugita and Mr. Bob Harris, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, have put
together an on -going training program to meet the new state requirements.
• Suggested changes:
• Department of Education (DOE) to Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
(DESE).
• Add date of revision: 1/12/2016.
• Recommend to full committee for first reading at the February 2, 2016 meeting.
Discussion of policy Intervention, Prevention, and Postvention Suicide Policy (JLDBA) with Director of K -12
Counselling Valerie Viscosi and Clarke Middle School Social Worker Stacy Glickman. The School Committee
Executive Assistant Paula McDonough joined the meeting.
• The name of this department was changed from "Guidance" to "Counselling" in the summer of
2016.
• Content revision of this policy was done in October 2016.
• The Administrative Guidelines will not be included in the policy book.
• A side -by -side reading of the prior policy and the new policy was done and edits made.
• Add date of revision: 1/12/2016
• Recommend to the full committee for a first reading at the February 2, 2016 meeting.
Progress of Homework Policy
Dr. Czajkowski will distribute a preliminary report with her mid -cycle report. The working group she
has convened will begin work in March with plan to bring forward a new policy by September.
Discussion of Policy Manual Section G: Personnel
• Policy Personnel Records (GBJ)
Question of how long personnel records are kept after an employee is not longer with the
Lexington Public Schools. Dr. Czajkowski will take question to Mr. Harris.
Minutes from November 17, 2015 held for edits.

Policy Manual Section C: General School Administration along with selected Section D: Fiscal Management
policies requested by the business office will be reviewed at the next meeting.
The next meeting of the Policy Subcommittee will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM.
The meeting adjourned at 11:45 AM
