HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-05-31-LEX250-minSemiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) May 31,2023 Meeting Minutes Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk,the Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250)convened in a remote meeting via Zoom video conference on Wednesday,May 31 at 4:33 pm by Ms.Barry as allowed by legislation (S.2475)extending the suspension of certain provisions of the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. Present: Suzie Barry,Select Board Member,Chair Jillian Tung,Music &Arts Representative,Clerk Julie O’Leary,Civic Representative Steve Conners,Reenactment Community Representative Noah Michaelson,Community Representative Barry Cunha,Business Representative Cerise Jalelian,Town Celebrations Committee Representative Mona Roy,Community Representative,Vice Chair Bebe Fallick,Tourism Committee Representative John Rossi,Commission on Disability Liaison Guest:Robert Munro,Concord 250th Executive Committee ●The meeting was called to order at 4:33 pm by Ms.Barry ●Robert Munro: ○Inter-town meeting on June 1 (Lexington,Concord,Lincoln,Arlington)to be held at the Concord Free Library from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm ○Main purpose is to coordinate events Saturday,April 19,2025 ○Opportunities for inter-town collaboration will be discussed along with next steps ●Minutes ○Approval of the minutes of 5/10 (Mr.Michaelson)is pending and will be addressed at the 6/7/2023 meeting ●Working Group reports ○Community Engagement ■Working group has continued to meet with other groups in town ○Publicity ■Social media and other publicity efforts were efforts were discussed ○Logistics/Government Relations ■Ms.Barry and Dr.Cunha provided an update on their meeting with Hanscom leadership ●Thunderbird airshow is not feasible ●They suggested that we contact Massachusetts National Guard ●It will be possible for people to go on base during Patriots’Day weekend ■An update on the MAPC monument agreement was provided ○Schedule future meetings ■June 7,June 14,June 21 ○A request for ARPA funding will be made at the Select Board meeting on June 5, 2023 at 6:30 pm ■Sandhya Iyer and Barry Cunha worked on slide presentation ■Presentation includes information on economic benefits of tourism from Lex 250 events and breakdown of funding needs ○Funding update ■Bill for $1M in funding is in senate budget,but would likely go to fund expenses at state level if it’s retained,not to individual towns ○Trademark follow up ■Mr.Conners,Ms.Barry,Dr.Tung,and Ms.Roy met with town counsel and a trademark specialist.Discussions regarding use of materials related to the semiquincentennial by others not affiliated with the Commission are ongoing and trademark applications are still pending ○Tent ■Mr.Michaelson showed proofs of tent and the group discussed possibilities for signage on the canopy ■Mr.Michaelson set up spreadsheet to schedule volunteers ■Minimum of 2 people would be needed to staff the tent ■Would need something to give away-buttons,etc ■Group decided to think about possibilities for a tag line to put on one side of the canopy ○Schedule on Patriots’Day Weekend 2025 ■Group discussed different possibilities for event planning for Saturday, Sunday,and Monday and agreed to a tentative proposal to discuss at tomorrow’s inter-town meeting ●Adjourn ○A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 6:32 pm and approved by roll call vote Respectfully submitted, Jillian Tung
