Updates from Principal Baker
Rally &Walk Evacuation Drill
●Also known as “Exit &Walk”,this is an evacuation for occasions when it’s not safe to
return to campus.
●Diamond and Fiske are each other ’s site.Diamond had theirs today -they took
attendance and then walked back.
●Fiske’s route is to go down the path on the playground,cross Adams onto Hathaway
then to Sedge.
●Fiske’s drill is on Friday,June 16th -11a-12p.Will just walk to playing fields and take
attendance.Letter to go home to families on Friday,June 9,“Training”for staff on
Monday,June 12.
Fundations and Illustrative Math
●Fundations
○K and 1 full implementation 22/23
○K-3 Implementation 23/24
○Great success with Fundations.Teachers have been impressed with the impact
on students’work produced.Brian Baker recognized the teachers’dedication to
the program.
●Illustrative Mathematics
○3-5 Implementation 22/23
○K-5 Implementation 23/24
○Also going well for students.Brian Baker gives credit to Dr.Rawding for help
implementing this with fidelity.
School Innovation Plan
●This summer Brian Baker will review the plan and note progress.District will be
reviewing at the district level.
Field Day
●Friday,June 9th
○9-10 -K and 1st
○10 -11 -2nd &3rd
○11-12 -4th &5th
●Brian Baker and PTO Co-President Taylor Singh discussed weather implications given
rain in the recent forecast.Decision made to make the go/no-go call by 7a on Friday.
●Rebecca Bell asked about considerations for air quality given Canadian wildfires.Brian
Baker stated that has been discussed (even with the 5th graders going to Hale today).
The team looked at the index in the morning and we are still in the yellow zone so they
were approved to go to Hale.Will continue to monitor.
mCLASS All School Assessment (The New AIMSWeb)
●Wed.May 17th
●Amplified Boost for Grade 4 in 23/24 school year
●Take the place of the current word study
●Jan -June -piloted Lexia
●Literacy assessment -one data point that is used -can be used with an intervention
group as needed.Kids tested on ORF (oral reading fluency).Teachers listen to students
read one passage out loud.For K/1,students read beginning sounds,see how quickly
they can read a list of words.
●Data looks great.Literacy has already formed kids into a group to get some help before
summer.
●Early october first round of assessments.
Student Placement for the 23/24 School Year
●In Process Now -wrapping this week
●Families will receive this information in August
●Brian Baker noted that teachers are thoughtful about placement,and noted the time and
effort put into the process.
Kindergarten Screening
●Wed.May 31st
●All Students registered have been screened
●36 students registered at this time -hope to get more.Still have agreement for 3
sections for K
Sara Ward -Expert on Executive Functioning Skills
●LEF Community Grant
●Presented Part 2 on Friday,May 5th
●All Unit A,and SSI’s attended
●All KIA’s,IA’s and SSP’s were invited
●Both sessions were used for teachers this year.She has so much to offer,Brian is
hoping to get her in front of families next year.
MCAS Testing
●Complete -no issues
●Few make-ups were needed
Upcoming Dates
●5th Grade Step Up Day @ Diamond:Tuesday,June 6th -11-2pm
●Gr.5 Move Up Ceremony:Thursday,June 15th @ 11:00
●Fiske Move Up Day:Wednesday,June 21st
○Teachers will come out and talk to students
○PE teachers will watch 5th graders while their teachers are talking to 4th graders.
●Last day of school is Thursday,June 22:12:30PM Dismissal
Council Questions
Sarina asked for an update on the World Language Program
-Brian Baker stated that as of now the program has been tabled.Not sure when it will
come up for discussion again.
Closing Remarks
All in all,another successful year here at Fiske.Brian Baker gave many thanks to the staff for all
the hard work they do.
